Hello, I have a question:

I'm cycling for ± 6 months, for fun and to stay healthy. If I go cycling my nutrition in the morning consist of 2 or 3 egg muffins and bullet proof coffy, sometimes 2 fatbombs as well. Before I start I take 2 salt tablets and then one every hour while cycling. I also take powerbar gels every 45min. I want to know what about the sugar in the gels? Is it a no-go? I must add that the caffeine in the gels helps me with my energy levels tho. I also eat droewors while I'm cycling. I also add 2 raw eggs to my bullet proof coffy. Am I on the right track or any other advice?

According to prof Tim Noakes, spirits are allowed. I like to have a whiskey once a week with a braai. I mix it with Tab. Is that okay? Or should I cut it out rather?

I dont want anything to hamper my success.

I speak under correction, but alcohol produced via fermentation such as wine and beer contains residual sugars and hence carbohydrates. Alcohol produced via distillation such as brandy, whiskey, rum, etc. (i.e. spirits) contains no residual sugars and hence no carbohydrates. So if you want to limit/eliminate carbs, then don't touch wine or beer and stick to spirits (even if it's rum made from sugar cane!). Of course any form of alcohol is empty calories with no nutritional value, but that's a different debate.

Just take note.  Almost 70% of USN Vooma = Carbs, Powergel has a load of 27g of Carbs (they say 9% of DV)

So if you are on a LCHF diets I would say drop the gel.

I have my whiskey in neat form.  The G&T, well gin on it's own is horrible.  I just limit my intake to once a week.

All ethanol is exactly the same, i.e. C2H6O, furthermore the body metabolizes alcohol and fructose in virtually the same way. E.g. as too much alcohol may lead to liver cirrhosis and to much fructose can cause non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, a.k.a. fatty liver or Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. I suggest you have a look at "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" on youtube.

I got back onto the LCHF lifestyle this week.  My weight went from 83kg to a whopping 88.9 kg.

My fiancee saw that the diet works (her mom follows a more Paleo diet than LCHF, but she mixed the best of both)

so hope that the commute to work will help me get back in shape.  I hate being this fat and obese.

I agree that too much of anything can't be good for one. But would I be correct in saying that within RDA parameters, distilled alcohol is better than fermented alcohol if pursuing a LCHF diet? I (incorrectly?) would have thought that only carbohydrate (e.g. residual sugars in fermented alcolhol) requires insulin for metabolism, and not distilled alcohol (which has no carbohydrate)?

I am quite surprised at my weight loss over the holidays. LCHF mostly went out the window, but I still managed to lose 1kg.

This despite no riding due to injury, and drinking too much beer.

I guess that the habits, and not eating bread and sugar stood me in good faith.

I can't remember my biochem, but I think one of the products of alcohol metabolism is carb

DB maybe I am wrong. But I can swear that an occasional carb binge kick starts my weight loss again. Stagnate. Binge and then I start dropping weight. again. Edited by Vetseun

Might be muscle mass loss?
