DJR Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Would love to see Cavendish and Bolt race a cheetah. (Each with a piece of steak in his pants - Greyhound racing style.)
Wyatt Earp Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 He must be extra strong sprinting to all those victories on a 7.65ton bike. Hats off to the ma! The pro-peleton aren't weight weenies. The average guys who expect their equipment to turn them in to pro's are the weight weenies. I see it often , a lovely 100 kg. human with 25 % body fat and a 6.8 kg. bike and they wonder if taking another 5 grams off the stem or bar would make a difference. Eugene Oppelt Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 The UCI has new rules on equipment for 2014, notably for position in the time trials. Two TT bike rule changes stand out: the requirement to have level forearms is dropped, now the bars can have a maximum height difference of 10cm which will allow for some slope in the arms although the 10cm distance means the slope is minimal and not the “praying mantis” position used by the likes of Levi Leipheimer in the pastgear levers will now form part of the 75cm rule where any extensions cannot reach more than 75cm beyond a vertical plane from the bottom bracket. This means riders like Bradley Wiggins who use long bars plus manual gear levers for even more reach on the end – rather than electronic shifting with short buttons or levers – will have to revise their position.
Eugene Oppelt Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Will we see Jensie next year... http://d4nuk0dd6nrma.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/20130809-FS8A9895-Edit-copy.jpg

Eugene Oppelt Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 2014 Route should be announced in October . . . . :-) “That looks like a direction to head in. After all the years going for the Tour, [the idea of missing the Tour] takes a little while getting used to...But the Giro is always a race I wanted to do and do well in. It’s just a matter of changing mindset and so on. So at this point, it looks like directing my energies towards a grand tour other than the Tour de France.” Evans, retiring from racing le Tour, giving up team leader position to van Garderen.
Eugene Oppelt Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 "I can go to the Tour and go for stage wins, or ride for someone else; but having had the results I have had, I want to go for the win or I’d rather watch from the sidelines and put my energy into something else and go for that 100 per cent..." Evans, seemingly not keen to support Tejay at le Tour
Bonus Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Evans lives in Italy part of the year doesn't he?
Eugene Oppelt Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Evans lives in Italy part of the year doesn't he? Yebo His wife is Italian too.
Eugene Oppelt Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 “I’m hearing the rumours about the route and starting to piece together how I think I’m going to tackle it... Those rumours include reports of a stage over the cobbles in northern France, which do ring alarm bells for me”. Froome Dawg
T-Bob Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 “Those rumors include reports of a stage over the cobbles in northern France, which do ring alarm bells for me”. Also rumors it might hi into Flanders as well. Brilliant, how to add some serious grit to the 101st edition. All those riders who duck and hide from the classics and avoid Roubaix cant get away from pave when the tour rolls through. It won't ever be like a spring race but it's never short of thrills as the strong men go for the stage and the GC contenders try to work out how strike the balance of keeping out of trouble and riding hard and fast enough not to put your self in danger. Froome better buy Sean Kelly's book for a pointer or two. If I was a contender believe I'd spend spring recon'ing the cobbles and look to make a statement on those sections. Anything can happen and if you're not at the front, going fast then you're looking for and accident. Remember schleck last time around?
T-Bob Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 on other tour news: BOURGES, France (AFP) — Albert Bourlon, who holds the record for the longest ever breakaway in the Tour de France, has died at the age of 96, his family announced on Thursday.Born on November 23, 1916, the Frenchman lined up in his first Tour in 1938.After the race resumed following World War II, Bourlon created Tour history with a 253-kilometer stage-winning break between Carcassonne and Luchon on July 11, 1947.During the war he was captured and then escaped to Romania, where in 1944 he won the Bucharest-Ploesti-Bucharest classic.Bourlon died at Bourges, where the velodrome is named in his honor, on Wednesday.http://ledicodutour.perso.sfr.fr/images/coureurs/bourlon_2.jpg
