Tumbleweed Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I agree. Team let him down, should have paced him back and the lead out was poor. The second bit is true, but, from watching the replay this morning, didn't Velits pull him back up?
igknot Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 You don't get to be a competitor without being a bit fiery and that goes triple for sprinter temperament. Cav chucking his toys after the adrenaline dump of a crash, solo chase back and then sprint is the nature of the game. If he was an " Oh well no worries" kind of guy he wouldn't have all the wins he does. Sure he chucked his toys but he said nice stuff about Daryl afterwards. He was also very friendly in the midst of the 2011 Tour to a mates young sons. One of which is now representing SA at junior track worlds in a months time.Good enough for me. If Lance werent so competitive ............ We want both. A winner that is a nice gut in all circumstances too. And world peace
'Dale Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 The second bit is true, but, from watching the replay this morning, didn't Velits pull him back up? Vellits did once the team got info that Cav' was down. This was DELAYED due to the faulty comms.
HappyMartin Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 If Lance werent so competitive ............ We want both. A winner that is a nice gut in all circumstances too. And world peace The difference is when the same lad asked if he could take a photo with Lance he was told to get lost. When he turned up at the HTC hotel on the tour he ended up chatting to Cavendish while he was on the massage table. Cavendish asked him who else he would like to talk to and when he said Tony Martin Cavendish took him down to the dining hall to meet him. Anyway it's history. Today is a great day. jcza, nickc and SwissVan 3
dracs Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Must say that qVellits did once the team got info that Cav' was down. This was DELAYED due to the faulty comms.Must say that was an impressive bunny hop manouvre on the traffic circle to skip past about 3 cars... Was a bit worried for him as he returned to the road though - all got a little close and he was relying on the Astana car (I think) to see him... Reckon the red mist was driving him at this point!

jcza Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 The second bit is true, but, from watching the replay this morning, didn't Velits pull him back up? Could be...I was ffwd the PVR last night. Think he is going to stuggle to get the green. Things dont seem to be 100%.
Bos Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Vellits did once the team got info that Cav' was down. This was DELAYED due to the faulty comms. I heard this podcast...http://www.humansinvent.com/Where they speculated that dropping guys back that late in a stage is dangerous as one could get riders eliminated. It makes good sence, the peleton really gets moving in the last 20-30km..Maybe they were not sure and hesitated? Check out that Podcast, quite intertaining and nice to listen to the morning after.

jcza Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Prize classification review: part 01 - yellow jersey Stage seven of the 100th Tour de France will be the first time that a rider from Africa has worn the yellow jersey. Daryl Impey took the lead of general classification after finishing 13th in the stage to Montpellier yesterday. He has been in the front group of every stage, including the TTT which his Orica-GreenEdge team won on Tuesday. His consistency – 11th in stage one, 8th in stage two, 22nd in stage three, 1st in stage four, and 13th in stages five and six – have put him at the top of the overall rankings with a lead of 3” over Edvald Boasson Hagen (SKY). The former race leader, Simon Gerrans (OGE) is third at 5” while another Orica rider is ranked fourth: Michael Albasini, who is also at 5”.

dracs Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) Wonder if Boasson Hagen might just try take a dip at getting away in the last few k's to take those 3 secs....? Wouldn't be a sky priority to take the jersey (when they expect to get it tomorrow) but EBH may just be on the lookout for an opportunity... Edited July 5, 2013 by dracs

NotSoBigBen Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Cycling News HD@CyclingNews_HD4mThis could spell the end for Vande Velde. He's not had much luck in this race and is already nursing injuries #TDF #TDF100

I reckon Sky will assess conditions and, in the meantime, keep on protecting Froome. If there's an opportunity closer to the white chalk, I think Brailsford will unleash the big guy. Orica will fight to live another day in yellow.
