What Grease to use?

I'm servicing my bike myself bought the tools should be here tommorow, just want to know what grease to use for the hubs bb etc, and for the disc brakes will Q20 work?

I use marine grease... and no q20 .

Brakes usually just need rebleed and new pads.

Got now for almost 2 years...

Modi grease [from Midas or other motor suppliers] is excellent - waterproof and better than anything else I've ever found. It's black in colour, lasts forever because it doesn't wash away in water, like other greases, and doesn't harden with age. And its locally made [in Durban]. You can buy it in tubes or tubs [500ml] and cheap . Buy a tub as it's easy to store/access and close after use.

10nm is nice and tight using a short allen key by hand. It should hurt your hand a bit.

 

But actually, get a torque wrench - good investment with the lightweight bolts and soft materials in use these days.

not very tight. The pivots on my bike is specked to 25nm and that is easily reached with a torque wrench that has a 20cm handle without much preasure applied. My suggestion is to rather get a torque wrench though

I can't see a reason why not. It's water insoluble which is good. Maybe the viscosity is to low?

Vaseline is OK for your skin, but not much good for metal surfaces in bearings!

Definitely don't use Vaseline!!!

Vaseline melts at an extremely low temp. First ride it will all run out.

Use it for plikking if you want but not on your bike.

Ok maybe vaseline is not such a good idea! Het nog paar potte oor van kinners toe hul babas was, moet se die fietse het 'n lekker reuk gehad as ek van daai scented potte raak gevat het!
