[Event] NISSAN TRAILSEEKER #2 Cullinan

I'm one of the slower 40km riders that try to keep left as much as possible. I try and ride as much as possible of the trail, but when my legs fails me I know to get of the track. What bugs me as a slower rider is fellow slow riders stoping in the middle of the track and not moving out of the way. The rest of us behind them is then also forced to stop as the right hand track is occupied by the faster riders.

Stil I love to get out in nature and puch my own limits on the mountain bike.

I thought that overall it was an excellent event. No parking issues, great start chutes that worked perfectly and the route was a real mountain bike route, although I would of loved a bit more single track. I loved it. I had to have a little giggle to myself to see how fast the guys burnt the 1st 30km and were dragging themselves close to death by 65km. Maybe they learnt a little about pacing themselves. I started the 70km in C and when we came across the 20km and 40km riders they really weren't to bad at all and moved over when asked politely to do so. Anyway it was good skill practice to bob and weave around the backmarkers. Who cares if you loose maybe 2 minutes max moving through the backmarkers? . Considering that around 3000 riders took to those trails, well done to the organisers, I had a blast and will be back. PS, The commentator did say the race was 75km while he was briefing us and to those complaining it was 5km more than advertised, be thankful you got 7.5% extra value.

Both routes were def updated for this years event. I think it's taken the Cullinan "soft" ride and turned into a bit more of a challenge.

I'm not a complainer, but can I please ask that the organizers just sort out the distance issues?

Rooiberg was advertised as a 60km, ended up being 75km.

Cullinan was advertised as 70km, ended up being 75km.

Not a "biggy", just keen on having an accurate distance and profile before the ride to prepare mentally for whats coming.

not cool - death threats ??? Gees maybe its wrong but your response is a bit extreme Idd say

come on heeldrop, you know as good as me that it's not a death threat.

During Trailseeker #1 70km I decided to drop back from A batch to D batch to ride with my GF as a recovery ride after the sani2c. So when we went through the Forest @ Rosemary hill some laaitie and his friends first shouted "track", sweared at all the slower riders and then tried to push her and a other few riders off the road (in the Forest section FFS) which they did, they also thought that they are faster than the riders they just shouted at so they could get away with it. Well, they got a surprise of their life, I speeded up, caught up with them and push the one laaitie who shouted "track" into the forest trees and k@kked him out, the other MTN oke got such a shock that he went off the road and bought a small farm all by himself.

The real rules of MTB'ing are(this is specially for the dirt roadies out there):

- You can shout "Track" which means you are coming past by your own ways and means, thus its a warning and not a order to keep left

- The slower rider might keep left if possible and safe to do so, but if he/she does, its a privilege followed by a thank you or nod

- If you walk, you keep as much left or aside the track as possible, on district roads just keep on the left side

- The real MTB races, like the sani/joberg2c etc states that if you litter its an immediate DQ, if you litter on our shared trail or any other place in nature you should be disqualified and rather rejoin the roadies group again. Real MTB'ers don't litter!!!!

- If you push someone off their bike, especially a lady, be aware of who are riding behind her, it could be someone in the A batch, you never know so be ready to deal with the consequences.

Well well, aren't you just the better man here, pushing a boy into a tree. I'm sure you showed him.

Edit: I would have supported you should you have pulled him over, and given him a good old hiding, or reported him to the organizers afterwards.

But pushing him deliberately into a tree could have ended very bad, and you are no better than him.

Well done hahahaha!

My GF rode her first race this weekend and was completely put off by the race snakes shouting at them on their way past, its actually going to be hard to convince her to try again which is a real pitty.. well done for standing up for the ladies!

The race was just badly timed, seems like all the A class people came past the slow riders right in the middle of the technical stuff??? One 20km entrant tried to get back onto the track as a faster lady rider was passing and they had a massive collision resulting in the faster lady being knocked unconscious, not good for either entrant..

Can anyone tell me where the photos can be purchased?

I am sorry to say, but after this event I don't want to call myself a mountain biker anymore. I will still ride, but I really don't want to be associated with the idiots that I saw at this race. Now I remember why I avoided the nissan series for 2 years.

Seriously people, fist fights at a mountain bike race? WTF?

I asked this person POLITELY to please look before he turn (after the 3rd time that he cut infront of me and forcing me to stop) and he starts shouting, "let's stop and sort it out!". Seriously dude? Sort what out? The fact that you didn't look before you jumped from one side of the jeep track to the other side, and not just once? The fact that I asked you politely to look before you turn/cut across? Seriously dude, you should not attend public events. Perhaps a bit of anger management is in order.

It is sad to say, but if this is how mountain bikers act, then I am not one.

Karma, I sortof agree with you.

But, if the guy pushed me off then rode I would probably have done nothing or shoulted at him at worst, but pushing a girl off the road with their hands, WTF is that all about? They should pick someone their own size and calibre. However, its because of the lack of hidings these laaities think that they king dingaling chasing for a 100th position and f&$@ the rest. i've been riding MTB'ing for a very long time and who do these guys think they are? The past 2 years the attitude and respect for other dirt riders at these races decreased dramatically. I'm sorry, but its unacceptable and I'm sure that laaitjie wouldn't do it again, he hopefully learned a valuable lesson which he will pay forward.

My GF could've ended up like @meentb's GF with a knee injury or worse.

PS: Pushing someone in the forest into a small tree at 10kmh couldn't have ended bad in any way, I should've shoved a 29er CO2 bomb up his arse.

Dude, listen to yourself?

In no way am I saying he was innocent, report these kids/boys/men, and have CSA deal with them. Next race he will be back and he will do the same.

Get them banned from entering races rather.

I suffered in the 40. Period. Lungs blew and had 2 asthma blow outs from all the dust but i dug deep and finished. Through everything, I enjoyed it, even the hike a bike sections that killed the legs, LOVED the downhill sections (somehow, somewhere I hit a 45km top speed which is a miracle for me!!)... also watched twice, how some riders were almost taken out by some antelope in a panic, one actually fell as it tried to jump through a handful of riders. Rather scary when you se how fast they can move when panicked.

BUT.. like childbirth, one soon forgets about the pain and hours after swearing you are giving your bike away and taking up spinning instead, you are waiting for the next one!! Loved the vibe at the end, the prego roll was a killer and hit the spot!! So YES... there seemed to have been a few issues out there but bear in mind when you enter a series of this nature. there are 3000 people that organisers ned to cater for so one must expect bottlenecks and less single track etc etc.. lots of people out there ride for fun and even if they are not as technically strong as you, also have a right to be out there. Suck it up and put it down to being part of the experience.. I always try give way and will even pull over for a faster rider and always ask if they wanna pass if stuck behind me. For what its worth... I had a super day out!!

I agree Karma... we had a chop at last race who came up behind 4 of us on singletrack and we were going over a rocky descent when he just overtook and squeezed his way past everyone, 2 people fell behind me and I almost fell as he rode me off my line. And for what?? His 798th posistion?? CHOPS like THAT should be banned from racing. Very disrespectful!!

I had a good ride. Most of the shorter distance riders were considerate when we came past and it added to an enjoyable experience. I enjoyed the new route, although a bit more singletrack wont hurt.

On 60km I looked down and saw that we had only climbed 650m. I thought the organisers made a mistake reporting it as 950m before the race. I was the one mistaken! Ended up on 1040m after 74km according to my Bryton. The last 14km was tough, especially as I expected it to be only 10km.

Still, nice ride. Saw some zebra, wildebeest and that lion. Overall, very enjoyable and a nlrelatively chalenging route.

Pity about the vehicle thefts. Also heard of a Fortuner being stolen.
