Good job captain

You did an excellent job of marshalling the troops!

Lucky any one of those 'aunties' didn't deck you or Rouxtjie along the way

True story, the one asked me for a "stoot"....

Rooiberg was advertised as a 60km, ended up being 75km.

Cullinan was advertised as 70km, ended up being 75km.

Think race distances are suppose to be within 10% of advertised distance, i accept that and ride til i cross the finish line, i do get that 5km on a MTB can be hell on some courses. Rooiberg tho would've pulled hard on my Udder!

Haven't laughed that much on a bike in a very long time ...... except when I had that spectacular crash over Andy and the worst 'injury' was to my pinkie

Alot of people must have been laughing with us riding along singing, 1st in a race for me & was awesome

You should've seen what it was like being behind you Bennie, aim left or right of the dust cloud for safety.

Rouxtjie's little drop bike and run was funny, then i saw how far he'd actually run and i laughed even more.

Thinking of riding it at least a few times before the race itself! Haven't ridden at VG yet so should go and try it out first!

If you like technical stuff & single track, VG is awesome! Definitely worth the money

Thanks for a lekker ride boys

Hi guys,

Thank you for all the feedback.

With regards to this years race, I would just like to clear up a few things:

Congestion/Bottlenecks

I understand your frustration regarding the congestion, however it was unfortunately not possible to separate the different distances through the reserve as there was only 1 exit and route back into town. Next year we will look at the possibility of reversing the route so that the split and more technical sections are sooner in the race and the merge is closer to the ...

Tim - again, I thought the route was great.

As for the congestion, I understand your point, BUT perhaps some more thought should've gone into WHEN (the timing) the 20/40 Kms batches were released so that the congestion could have been eased. Also having the 20/40km riders join the marathon route right in the thick of the A bunch marathon riders was an oversight on the organizers behalf. I would like to suggest that in future when route convergence is unavoidable, at least make sure that u time it right so that the A&B batches get through unimpeded. That way the serious guys can race and the fun riders can have fun. That way most of us get what we entered for. Just a thought.

Would have saved about 10 pages of complaints on this thread, and a few less dramas out on route.

Tim

Thanx for the lekka event, will certainly be back next year. Even though i lost my sence of humour at 70ks and realised no finish line.

Now if i may clear a few things

Next year we will look at the possibility of reversing the route so that the split and more technical sections are sooner in the race and the merge is closer to the finish.

As for those who took their frustrations out on other riders, please rather try to settle these matters through the official channels in the future. Get the culprits race number and report him to the organizers...if it is a serious matter (such as swearing or physical assault of another rider) I assure you that the rider will be dealt with accordingly!

Extra distance

The marathon distance was 4.8km longer then advertised. The advertised distance of 70km was published months ago before the routes were even confirmed. Due to land access issues, the race had to be lengthened - the organizers have every right to change the route if deemed necessary.

The actual race distance was mentioned to all batches by the MC during rider briefing.

I started in Group G and was on the first row of riders, I can assure you the extra distance was not mentioned for this group. Your MC was too busy interveiwing some chick for Supersport.

Difficulty of route

Designing a route to cater for EVERY level of rider is impossible! I try to incorporate something for everyone, and maintain a good balance of fun/technical and easy riding.

For those of you who think that the rocky climb was unridable, it wasn't - many of the pros rode all the way up!

For those of you complaining about too little single track - this is because of the routes merging and the anticipated congestion.

ït wasn't" i beg to differ, when at least 95% of the field is walking i'd call that un-rideable. Having a couple hundred riders made up of pros and serious racing snakes being able to ride up a hill on their level doesn't make it rideable for the bulk of the riders which make up the race.

Littering

The amount of litter that I picked up on the route after the race was disgusting. I understand that bottles fall out on the descents but there is NO excuse for Gu packets and energy bar wrappers to be scattered all over the course, and even less excuse to leave your punctured tubes, along with insulation tape, used bombs and all sorts of other unwanted spares out there!

Thanks for understanding.

Don't get me wrong because this is not a rant and i can understand your frustration, especially at the littering, i was shocked at the amount of tubes i saw laying around as well as the litter. Some riders just don't seem to understand the implications of litter and especially rubber will have on wild animals, not to mention the pissed off landowners giving you the finger when they are approached for next years events. But i think these riders are in the minority.

Well done on an awsome event, we'll all be baaack
