When I was a high school senior, I ended up in the hospital after the front wheel of my bicycle fell off when I caught some air on a curb. I landed smack on my face, breaking my jaw, chin and nose. I never recovered any memory of the crash or the 30 minutes or so immediately afterward. I was not wearing a helmet.

yes will def help when you head hit the curb, but not when a car flies into @ 120km/h. 'Murican...they always have to have an answer for everything.

I hit the tar at 50 km/h last week, landed on my pip.

I ended up with a concussion and my helmut was crunched.

That little bit of polystyrene kept me from a hospital bed at the very least.

I do feel better protected with a helmet on my noodle. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt

I've never tried on my noodle, but I believe it works on the other head.

my brain is easily as small and wrinkled as a noodle and hence the terminology. I seriously hope your... does not look like a noodle, at least for your better half's sake  Edited by Mr SingleTrack

Laws do not save people. Irrespective of the nature of the law

Wearing no helmet makes sense when commuting in a commuter friendly cities e.g. Amsterdam. And I think this kind of riding is what much of the no helmet debate is actually focussing on.

There is no chance I'd ride my local trail without covering on my pip.

P.S. I read somewhere that the percentage of injuries in car accidents being head injuries is only slightly lower than that measured in cycling injuries. Why no helmets for cars? It's all about perceived risk ;-)
