I have had a few fun-filled weeks lately. Had a fall at Magalies Monster (little stream 1km from the end). Punctured my left forearm on something in the water. Small cut but quite deep. Had it cleaned within 5 minutes of incident at medical tent. Went to hospital for decent cleaning and stitches. 4 days later arm starts swelling. Hurts like hell. Fever attacks. Arm turns purple and balloons up like the Michelin man's. Go back to hospital. Diagnosis sepsis. Emergency operation. Then another a few days later. The surgeon said I was lucky, a few days later and I might have become captain Hook. Quite a scary thought...

Fountains ride, coming off the high section towards the car park, little bit of oversteer, breaking and some soft stuff hooked the front wheel 90 degrees. Went over the front catching my knee on the brake lever and handlebar on the way through, 2 holes and 16 stitches later.....

Popped a wheelie ... then popped my ankle :(

Those are staples on the left and right sides.

Sucks ... crutches for 5 more weeks!

Dont think I like being screwed as much as I did before this little crash!

The long screw (clearer in 2nd) photo has to come out in 5 weeks before I can walk again

Eish, had a fairly non-descript off on 1 May, thought I'd sprained it so rode for a few k's before letting the boys know that I'd be returning to my car. Total ride time after prang was around 8km. Went to doc for some strapping of my sprain. Straight to X-Ray and was told it's fractured. Pissed me off as GoPro footage looked like I just stopped and lay the bike down!

Weekly check ups with the doc looked like it was healing, until week 8 (after I'd been walking on it for two weeks already) when doc said I'd need some surgery. This is what I look like after last Friday's op:

Doc said he battled with the top screw and managed to strip the thread of the first one in.He was also kind enough to photgraph the surgery for me. The plate looks like a bicycle chain from the side.

Sorry for pic quality, it's a photo of the X-Ray they took during the surgery.

Thanks to Captain Cheesy for bringing some beer to the hospital on Friday night

So I take the dog for a run this evening. Normally he runs loose next to the bike (we are on a quiet back road), but because it was dark already, I thought it would be safer to have him on a lead, running next to me. That was until a car came screaming down the road, giving the dog a good fright. Next the dog is trying to get behind the bike and stupid me is holding tightly onto the handlebar and lead. The right handlebar gets pulled back with force and I am flat on my back in the middle of the road. I think the last time I have hit my head this hard was at the Totalsports Challenge - at least then I was wearing a helmet!

Two lessons learnt: even a skinny whippet can move a handle bar. Always wear a helmet, saves you a lot of headache!

You need this thing.

Sorry Scale. Couldn't find the "clean" ones after the stitches. Must have lost them when changing phones.

In Evildale a few years ago I was passing a queue of cars and decided it would be quicker if I was on the pavement so zooted up a driveway entrance but didn't notice the guide/tensioning wire for a street light pole which my handlebars found. Problem was that the bar-ends made sure the bike was going upwards and before I knew it I was upside down 10-feet in the air and plummeting earthwards .... must've looked great!!!

Eina! must have hurt.

But would look quite funny from an observer's point of view...

How did you do that?

Gas it a bit to much for the wheelie and go over he back, then try save yourself with a foot out?
