Who needs a Dropper Post?

I got hit badly in the ball sack on stage 1 at Mankele, at the rock garden. I'm buying a dropper post this weekend. Never in my life to I want to experience that pain again!

6 cracked ribs and a collapsed lung later, yeah. Plus I have all the flexibility of a scaffolding pole. So me needs one.

I pulled that move the other day... half assed it actually... got a knock staight into my johnson!

Dropper posts rock, when you need it it's there, when you don't - ride at full extension. If you've never ridden with one, you'll never know the benefit Nuff said.

The worst thing is getting into that position like that guy and looking and feeling like an absolute pro and then trying to get back onto the saddle and your shorts hook up on the back of the saddle and you can`t. Try experience that at speed - I was definitly awake after that experience.

But if you ride it at full extension, doesn't it move? I remember the first ones had play from left to right. Is that a thing of the past?

No movement at all. It rides like a normal seatpost.

dropper posts are fine for enduro and all mountain rigs.

but the bloke in the OP is doing fine on his xc rig without one.

what was the preferred set up before dropper posts?

 

stop and adjust your seat height? or compromise and ride it in between optimal and low?
