Skewer advise

Hi All,

 

I'm in the process of purchasing some skewers for my road bike, and just wondering if anybody has any experience with these Aest Ti skewers.

I see it does not have the quick release levers and just wondering how they work.

Sometimes its a 'special' allen key with a small 'hole' in the end ....... DON'T LOSE IT

Keep it steel and keep it real ... a while back I recall issues with certain skewers that were made with Ti axels and they tended to "stretch" when under load (for want of a better word) and work their way loose.

Thanks. So the weight advantage of this skewer (38g) is gone since you have to ride with a special alan key. Or would a standard key that is on one's multi tool do the job?

Don't know about those but the ones we have definitely .... i.e. a standard one doesn't work

Don't fart around with fancy pantsy skewers. If it has an external cam and doesn't say Shimano or Campagnolo on the side, then avoid it like a roadblock.

 

Cheap and fancy skewers creak and make the simple process of closing a QR a mission. Most of these with the external cams are lethal, to boot. If you attempt to tighten them as tight as they're supposed to go, the lever can break and cut you. Come see my scars.

Shimano skewers are great in my opinion, we use them on all our bikes.

So, it seems most online stores are selling everything except shimano/campag skewers. Are they relatively common, ie I can walk into any lbs?

Shimano sells all its skewers separately but the local distributor doesn't have stock of front skewers and some rear models at the moment. It is a real pain since I try and fit those skewers to all the Hope wheels I build. Hope's own skewers are sub-standard.

 

I have limited stock if you are interested. I probably won't match front and back with exactly the same colour.

Why is that JB, I own two sets and have never had an issue...Is there something I don't know?
