I must have injured my forearm muscles/tendons some time back (I struggle to do things like use a screwdriver - twisting motion) and tonight after doing some work on my bakkie and ripping up the handbrake lever from the passenger side using my right arm it is feeling pretty bad! We recently moved into our new house and I have been doing lots of work so its not really had any time to rest.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem? What did you do to get it right and how long did it take? I have read you can have injections and possibly an op but I was wondering about just letting it rest for a few weeks?

May not be the same, I developed tennis elbow riding and working on my house (roofing). The injury was from over use. I battled to lift a packet from the boot of my car! KT tape and REST (8 months thereof) solved the problem. I was about to have surgery!!

Not sure if it is tennis elbow, but if I hold my arm out straight in front of me and pull my hand back back (so the fingers are pointing skywards) then the pain is pretty bad. 8 months is a long time! Did you do any riding or anything during that period?

Funnily enough I dont notice it when I ride!

I did not battle on the bike, only when taking evasive action on drop offs. I broke my ankle and had to rest. During the time a number of problems healed.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. It's like I have no strength in my right hand and I can feel the problem is in my elbow. I can't afford to rest right now though, training for the K2C!

I had a fall a while ago and managed to pull the muscle off of the bone on my fore arm and bruise the elbow. I struggled for 2 weeks and had a dull pain every night that kept me up. I started icing it 10mins on, 10 mins off and used a orthfit tubular bandage ( available at click or diskem) just as compression. It increased the healing speed and felt a lot better. Maybe try the same.

I had same problem last year and I went for cortiscone injection twice. It only helped for short time, so I went for an operation. It took a while to heal.

Check your handlebar width - too narrow. I changed from 600mm to 700mm - Much better.

Raise your handlebar a bit, to avoid too much pressure on forearms.

I do lots of cad work, so I started to use left hand mouse and it works...

I wound up buying some Panamor, staying off the bike and all activities for a week. I bought a arm brace and Sportsmans had a sale on some arm bands that allow you to place a hot/cold puch in them and strap it on. I have also been soaking the elbow area in hot water with epsom salts. 4 Days on and I am beginning to feel some relief.

Will update here again in a few days.

I am also looking at swopping the mouse to the left hand. Most of my day is spent in front of the computer and on the phone but I think I just over did everything when we were getting ready to move and then all the jobs after moving.

I've got a similar thing going on at the moment, my right & left forearm & elbow, sometimes feels like it's on fire. It is more so the right arm though. It is not consistently there, but certain movements are fairly painful.

I'm thinking it could be down to my new bike & set-up, as that's the only thing that has really changed with regards to bikes( I have two other bikes I ride.) I also do a lot of CAD/ Computer work on a daily basis.

Would a cortisone injection work?

What type of surgery are we talking here, and what is the recovery period if it comes down to worst case scenario?

8 months on and the pain is all but gone. Its just a question of time and gentle rehab. That trick of getting some rope, attaching a weight to one end and a round stick on the other end and then 'twisting' the stick handle to wind up the rope and lift the weight seems to be the best one. I also did a lot of massaging and using that ice gel and then heat for a month.

I think there is an injury you can get from repeatedly using the mouse, I suppose you just have to adapt and make some changes and hopefully the pain will fade after some time.

The Elbow is a difficult one.

If you search Dr. Google - Which can be fairly dangerous, you will see a variety of answers just like on this forum.

Best thing is to see a Qualified person to make a diagnosis. The understanding around these types of injuries is improving and often the key is diagnosing what stage of the "Tennis elbow" you are in.

There are some new novel treatments available such as

  • PRP - Platlet rich plasma injections
  • Eccentric strengthening
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Dynamic bracing

Ergonomics - The way your desk is set up/PC etc is important. It is a time factor. If you spend hours in the wrong position each day you are going to develop problems.

lateral epicondylitis ....Banged up my forearm and elbow on a mtnbike fall on Jan 1st 2014...suffered dull deep pain in forearm and sharp pain in the elbow...the dull pain in the forearm is brought on with workload and strangely get worse at night. Dr's diagnoses ,The dreaded Tennis Elbow, which we could soon rename" Mountain bikers elbow" I got an injection into the elbow which worked great for 3 weeks, When I started battling with grip strength I visited my GP again and this time had ex-ray's...nothing broken but probably some nerve damage .So more Anti-Inflammatories and a possible visit to the specialist if it doesn't improve.

So 5 months down the road...I wear one of those elasticized arm braces when ridding ..it seems to help...My arm will ache after heavy lifting ,and it will wake me up at night if I don't sleep with it in just the right position. My grip strength has improved but it's still not 100%.

so my big question who has tried acupuncture?
