I think the reason (besides some people just being stupid) that things are quite expensive in the classifieds is because there are so many morons who make ridiculous offers on stuff. I once sold a Shimano RS30 wheelset. I initially put it up for R1800 as to be honest, I didn't really know what to ask for it. Needless to say, I had some interest, but no one bought it. Fair enough, it was a bit high. But I had MANY people offer me R900, R800 even as low as R600. Come on.. What do these people think? That we're just gonna say "Yeah you know, that was the first offer. I'll just sell it to you for nothing". It just annoys me so much. And it's usually the lurkers who have no profile picture and no info on their profiles. I mean we all know what fair prices are on cycling gear. We all should be able to negotiate properly.

What a dumb thread. This classifieds is the most efficient market you could get, it has aspects of transparency, open bidding and access to information. third party advice is often freely available and open to all. What's best is that if a seller really hoodwinks you there is a feedback mechanism where you can openly slate the guy without even having to go to court. The chancers get quickly weeded out.

Therefore it's the best reflection of price. the real price of an object is what it sells for, not what it's quoted at. it's not overpriced if someone actually buys it.

I sold a brand new shock that i never put on a bike build a year or three back. put a speculative starting price at RRP on it, and discounted by R100 every day. ten days later it was sold and both buyer and seller were happy.

So glad you were willing to share your immense inteligence with a bunch of dumbasses likes ourselves. Feel honoured to have read your comment. NOT!!!!!!!!

When I sell used goods I ask myself what's the lowest I'd be willing to take for the item, then I list it at that price. If someone wants to negotiate, I ask them politely to walk away. If you have faith in your price and it's fair, stick to it.

I hate these oaks who think they negotiating king pins. I say R1000.00 you say R975.00... Get a life man.... What the hell is R25.00 or R100.00 difference going to make... Drives me insane... What do I look like ? Cajees?

Sorry I came across as condescending, but I really thought you were asking a dumb question. Quoting Wayne and Garth was the a damn fine way to show how I had misjudged you.

I'm fully with your first point there and that's how I approach buying and selling on the Hub. if someone offers you a ridiculous amount just say no, not difficult. I occasionally make PM offers on stuff I don't need but would like to have by offering a price I am WILLING to pay and ask if it's a ridiculous offer .... sometimes you win sometimes you lose but no one has to date been nasty about it!

' I ask them politely to walk away' doesn't however go so well with the next statement you make! But each to his own ... as many have said it's a free market buy it if you willing to pay the price if it's too high leave it!

I advertised my old bike for R10k

Some clown PM's me and says he will give me R7k cash, can he come collect?

So I said to him thats fine, heres my bank details for the other R3k... bring POP with the R7k cash.

Never heard from the prick again, the very next guy took it no questions asked.

When someone makes me a offer of R50.00 less on a R 2000.00 item that's worth over R6k new you may as well slap me in the face.... I guess that's what my second point was. I just don't get why people would even ask things like that.... To me, it's embarrassing, I would never do it.
