Then why did he make such a stupid comment? Calling the Epic a race where you are just a number is really stupid. Rather shut up than make such a stupid remark. Any race to any person is a personal thing. Why try and be a prick and tell them it is worth nothing??

Stop taking offense because someone does not agree that your achievement is something worthwhile.

 

No need to get personal, it is his opinion, and he is allowed that. Just as you are allowed yours.

 

Many people, for various reasons, do not agree that the epic is everything it is cracked out to be. Accept that different strokes for different folks.

Hi guys.

 

So my partner withdrew about an hour ago...

 

Here is the criteria:

 

first off, I'm looking for a partner!

 

Here is the catch, I (We, or us) need to have R 5000 by 31 August 2013.

 

The balance of R 55 000 needs to be paid by end of October 2013. If we miss the cut off by R 1.00 we loose all the money and the entry...

 

I am based on the West Coast, so any takers needs to keep this in mind. I need a team player that will be fully committed to drive me as much as he is willing to drive himself. I am not the best rider out there, I know how to work hard and achieve set goals. I need a team mate with balls to take this on with me. On the other hand if you have R 60 000 to give me I would also appreciate it, then me and my wife can ride it... Otherwise, we need to collect the money!

 

So, who is up to join me? This will be a truly life changing experience and I have committed my life to it in 2010. I stopped smoking as one part, lost 50kg so far and still fighting the weight off. I need a partner who can get sponsors, or can come up with a part of the R 60k?

No offence here. If I entered the race, or was on the waiting list, i would have my entry fees sorted. I been trying for 3 years now. Nothing. No epic, no Sani, No Joberg2c.... I took all my cash and started entering the other stage races. and I got cash to do the Epic...... But. I wanna do it with who I want to, not a person I've never met before...

 

Next year I will try again and all the others...

No offence here. If I entered the race, or was on the waiting list, i would have my entry fees sorted. I been trying for 3 years now. Nothing. No epic, no Sani, No Joberg2c.... I took all my cash and started entering the other stage races. and I got cash to do the Epic...... But. I wanna do it with who I want to, not a person I've never met before...

Training aint the problem. Getting the go ahead 4-6 weeks before the start is.... Me and the wife work and arent that lucky to just do what we want.... So i have to work around here schedule and my 6 yr olds aswell....

How to train...one day at a time, don't be silly with your hours! 2hrs a day 5 days a week will be more constructive then one 6 hr every Saturday.

For your sake I hope it's worth it, but to be honest doing the epic is not that special. I think about 7000 people have done it now. You are just one more number. It's just like when people tell me they're climbing kilimajaro. Good for them, but it's nothing special - people can do it in a wheelchair.

I have HUGE respect for anyone that can, or even try to do the Epic. I think the W2W is a lesser challenge by far - so why try to join us "numbers" by doing a "nothing special" - for free nogal!

That is correct, but I'm a bit surprised that epic riders got riled up by my comments. You might think I'm 'suurtiet' about the fact that I haven't done an Epic, but it's more really the idea that you HAVE to do an epic before you're considered a mtber(or whatever that means). I know plenty of people who commit to this monster, buy a mtb head down for 9 months and never touch the bike again. You don't really hear about these guys and what they think of the race do you?

 

Maybe I could have been a bit more explicit, but I think people are welcome to do whatever race they want. But do it for yourself. I don't however think that it's a big deal to come onto a forum and go wow. wee look at me, "I'm doing the epic". Plenty of people in that boat. I see the OP is looking for the cash and a new partner now, so I really do hope he thinks it's worth it before committing a lump of cash that doesn't exist to race 8 day with a stranger.

 

And ja, I'm looking to do W2W, as a lucky draw competition winner. in jeanpants, and a borat suit. on a single speed. that sounds a little different a little fun. if i don't win i don't do it, no sweat there. thanks for the plug, I'm way behind the other oke.
