just rock a salad spinner

PS. I'm half serious, haha! For those small little things. Salad spinner with parafin or isopropyl alcohol in should clean them quite nicely

What are you going to wash in that? Or are you also going to use it for car parts etc?

Otherwise just keep all your old yoghurt tubs, Nesquick containers and 2lt coke bottles! Cut to size, fill with petrol, paraffin, diesel or whatever your choice of cleaning agent is and recycle!

Ja perhaps it is a bit overkill. Rather invest in a good quality air compressor.

I tend to go a bit OTT at times

Fish tank water pump, two Addis containers?

Agree that its a tad over the top for occasional DIY use: plastic basin from Pick'n'Pay and a few different brushes will do the. You get some good cleaning fluids which can be hosed off (I use the pink stuff from Jacks Paint)

and a container for used oil/solvent that you can take to the dump for recycling... I also have one of those blue sumpy things for engine oil extraction - and it has a nice shallow bowl for parts cleaning without using too much solvent and PT - you just open the plug and it goes into the container - then take occasionally to the recycler.

I'm in the process of building up some essentials for DIY bike maintenance and it seems a parts washer would come in handy for chain maintenance.

Does anyone know where one can find one at a decent price? All I could find was this:

http://www.wcmcape.co.za/products/parts-washer/ and it costs R1 950.00 ex VAT. I don't want to spend that much.

Cheers

I have a plan somewhere in a gunsmithing manual to make one with a 44 gal drum and a pump. Will look for and cannot promise anything.

Why dont you just get your wife/gf to wash it for you as you take it apart and then hand it back as you need to assemble it again?? ^_^

Sheesh! you can't just go around saying that!

What about those of us who are... uhumm... you know...

How would a fish tank submersible pump handle solvent based cleaner? Even water based such as diluted mix of Powasol and water? I have a spare pump lying around and it has a build in filter as well.... You got me thinking Ed.....

Fish tank pups don't hold up well to organic solvents - you can however use aluminium friendly solvents in your dishwasher... when the wife is out...
