Time to replace 29er wheels. American classic or Easton??

Hi guys,

I currently ride a trek superfly elite HT. Its a brilliant bike, full carbon all round.

Is it actually worth upgrading? I tend to think the bike i bought is brilliantly specced except the wheels and shock...

Any thoughts

How much do you weigh? If under 80kg you can look at American Classic 101 with AC hubs, light and very stiff and cheaper than either of the other listed by you.

I also changed out my TREK Superfly 100 wheels. Those Mustangs where very flexy and the Shitmano rear hub kept coming loose on the cone nuts. Which is expected from Shitmano.

I changed out to ZTR Flow with Hope Hubs and triple lace spokes, also changed the Mustang wheels rear hub to Hope and had them triple re-laced (now hang in my garage as spare wheels). converted rear to 12mm maxle.

No more or very little flex, very happy with my upgrade.

If you go HOPE hubs, order them with the steel freebody, as some clusters are known to eat into the grooves/slots on the alu freebody. Steel is slightly heavier but worth it in the end.

AM classics get my vote every time..love mine to bits..

Same here, I've done thousands of kms and yes theres a couple of dings but trouble free otherwise.

I love mine, and everything about them!

After hammering mine around the world champs XCO course i love them more , they really do perform in tech stuff very well , nice and predictable in the switch backs and climb so well .

Best you could possibly buy, ok maybe not the ZTR's but definitly the Kings

There is NO BETTER HUB!!

Other than Industry Nine of course. For two thirds of the price. And hubs that can be adapted to any axle size / width. With faster engagement.

But other than that...

I'd go with the AM Classic's. Easton have been battilng to get their mtb hubs reliable, something AMC managed to do couple of years ago. 2014 could be the year for Easton, but no one knows yet.

Plus, you will get much better support from local AMC agents than Easton.
