Vetseun Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 So my training partner and myself were doing our Thursday evening afkak session this evening. At about 18h20, just at that time when you can use your lights but you still dont have to, we hit a section of single track near the Tempe Airport in Bloem. Then we were flying then I was on the ground. Some person had stretched a single strand of barbed wire across the track. Tied between two trees.10 cm higher and it would have hit me in the neck.Luckily it impacted on my upper arms.I dont know if it was a cyclist hater, possibly a potential hijack, or maybe kids being totally irresponsible. We managed to remove the wire.I just hope that the idiot that did this realises that it is very very dangerous. We have ridden this section often with no issuesLuckily it is a path we found by chance so I dont think other MTB riders are using it.... yet.Anyway be careful out there Guys and Girls, it seems as if it can get dangerous.
DIPSLICK Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I once nearly got my head ripped off by a proper cable snare set at neck height, in hartebeestpoort on a drop off, I am as blind as a bat I missed it but luckily my riding partner saw it, it was placed as a trap for either cyclist or game. All I know I was lucky, as you now know how that feels,,,could have been much worse

BrianMTB Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Wow! I'd say you were lucky, that could have been a whole lot worse. Glad you're okay. Â You are probably right about it being a set up for a hijack. The idiots who did it probably got bored waiting around and left without removing the wire. DIPSLICK 1
still learning Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I have had a very similar experience in PTA east. Wire was stretched out lower though. Clipping my pedal and sent me flying. Not a good feeling at all.
Skylark Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 That's a really *** move, barbed wire isn't playing around, these guys meant business. Why would someone have such evil intentions? Hairy 1

Skylark Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 So it looks like criminals not disgruntled walkers or what not?
Sniffie Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Did this happen on private ground? Does the owner know there are people using this piece of land for mtb'ing? Might want to report this, glad you are ok though.
