Did not read the whole thread.

With all the rantjies bisecting Johnannesburg and Pretoria from east to west, Brown Hyena and Leopard do occur here from time to time. The koppies or randjies mostly lead to open veld to the east or west.

A few years ago a leopard was shot opposite Builders Warehouse in Gezina. A leopard was recently struck by a car crossing the N1 near the Scientae crossing with the N4. Leopard have been seen on the Suikerbosrand in the Krugersdorp Roodepoort area. Brown Hyena are rarely seen as the are nocturnal animals, but they are there.

Damn, Luckily it was only a Hyena. Here we have to look out for Lions and Mamba's, and the occasional Hippo and Elephant. This is Africa, not a place for sissies  :whistling:

Any news on how she is doing????

Last I read, she is doing well.

From EWN:

Nikki Wright, manager of FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, said they have to wait for the hyena’s lacerated feet to heal before she can be released.

Spoke to Brett the vet. He says that they actually first hear about her on the loose three days ago. She is doing well. At the zoo for a few days until her paws heal a bit and she is hydrated.

Brown Hyena (as in the photos I posted and took myself) dominates Leopard and Cheetah... the first time I read about it was in the wonderful book 'Cry of the Kalahari' - then experienced it second hand seeing a beautiful sequence of photos a neighbour at Nossob camp in Kgalagadi showed me. On a cold winters morning (-8) a Brown Heyna attacked 3 Cheetah and took their kill... wish I had those photos to show here...happened near Mata Mata.

Not the same instance I spoke of above, but another sequence of beautiful photos of a Brown Hyena dominating 3 Cheetah...
