I have said this before and i will say it again:

In my opinion the PPA seeding is Faulty and the Cycle Tour Fund must grab in before everything that was achieved in the last 10 years will go to waste!

Why is it that when i raise the issue then i dont exist to PPA, but when i have to pay my subs then i am very important...........

Here is an example:

Sun 22/09/2013 The Pennypinchers Die Burger Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Race (96km)

My Ave speed 24.68

My Time 03:54

Winners time 03:05

I was 91st

And they gave me an Index of 20.68

This counts towards my seeding for Argus so can someone please explain this to me ?

Looks reasonable to me, your average speed & position doesn't count, only your time relative to the winning time. Why do you say its wrong?

What is the beta for the K2C?

It's like Skubarra stated, your seeding is calculated based on your time in relation to the winner's time, and the difficulty of the route and weather conditions (beta).

I agree with a you here. A sub 4 hour Karoo2Coast is not easy.

I did a 3:55 with a index of 21 for the Karoo.

but then I also did the Burger with a time of 2:20 with a index of 13.7.

I can tell you now the 2:20 of the Burger was a lot easier than the sub 4.

I know what you guys are saying about being close to the winners time and all that but at the end of the day why make it a seeding ride if its not a fair reflection on how strong you are.

For the Burger you finished about 10 minutes behind the winner and for the K2C almost an hour so an index of 13.7 vs 21 sounds reasonable to me even if K2C was more difficult.

But I agree that the whole Beta thing seems a bit flawed, especially for mtb races they don't seem to get it right often enough, for road races it seems to work better.

But I disagree with the OP statement the system as a whole is faulty.

They're doing a pretty good job with the seedings and the example you posted seems reasonable. I guess it becomes very difficult if you start comparing road to mtb races, but that's what you guys want so they did the best they can.

events towards argus seeding is just marketing hype to get more people to ride. your argus time from the previous year is sufficient and u don't event have to be a ppa member.

I don't do any seeding rides and get seeded very well based on my previous years Argus time. My current PPA seeding is based on that 1 Argus event is an A.

10min behind the winner at Burger vs Close to 60min at K2C is a big chunk of time and their index looks right for it.
