Oh and there is very much something wrong with all the stories of his crash. Did anyone else fall with him ?

I mean if there was something in the road, or if a bike fell off another car, why were there not more guys involved in the crash ?

If the cameras did not catch anything, I suspect there will be alot of spin doctoring around this. Kinda like chaingate.

Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde said he saw Contador’s bars slip, which caused him to crash. “I saw him [Contador] crash right in front of me. His handlebars slipped when he hit a pothole,” Valverde told Spanish radio. “I realized at the feed zone that he abandoned.”

Bad bad luck.. but that's how it goes I suppose..

These things happen. .Unfortunately.

Hope he makes a speedy recovery. . But with a broken tibia I don't know if he will be ready for the Vuelta. ..

Team manager Bjarne Riis said that Contador would probably need surgery on his fractured tibia bone.

"Alberto crashed on a fast and straight part of the descent. He was reaching for his pocket and the bike was swept away under him probably because of a bump or hole in the road," he added.

The hardest races are not always about stage profile. Today didn't have huge mountain passes, but the weather, the pace and the attacks made Nibali say tonight that "this was the hardest stage I've ever done in a Grand Tour". Coming from a man who has won big Giro stages in driving sleet and snow, that is saying something.

Would the whole bike, wheels and all not be toast if a car rode over it?

This one's for 'Dale - Sagan's Cannondale team: green but not great - VeloNews.com http://po.st/9kl0gc via @velonews

Not since Frenchman Charles Pélissier in 1930, has a rider placed in the top five in the first seven stages. Pélissier, however, won stages 1 and 3, and five more in the last two weeks.

Who would've guessed that Froomer and Pistolero would've have abandoned this's great race way before the halfway mark.

Nibs looking set to have a peaceful rest day.

Gonna be interesting who has the strength will bridge him on the GC ladder.

Still a loong way to the Champs Élysées
