Woolly Bugger is so een.

And my personal favourite - Duckworths Dargle Delight (DDD)

Probably the one dry to rule them all....works a charm on yellows but in smaller sizes.

My super secret method for smashing yellows in the late afternoon is a foam hopper pattern(my own, made a metal press to cut the foam for three different hook sizes so that I can tie them quickly), the hopper's silhouette could double up as the big night time egg laying caddis with a tiny cdc nymph below it on the dropper. BOOOOM

Also get the following flies for troot stockies...three of each

Red eye damsel

Gold ribbed hares ear

Peasant tail nymphs

Adams

Klinkhammer

White death

Oh the Pappa Roach sells old brakes :-)

whahahaha that he does....but a killer pattern none the less....took my biggest brown on this one, it has an awesome action in the zonker tail, it looks properly alive when you retrieve in short sharp bursts. Bitch to tie though. Technically it should work on yellows in deeper pools too, but haven't caught any using it.

This thread needs some pictures! (I realized with a shock how few flyfishing pictures I have because I mostly fish alone. I'll have to do something about that.)

Smallmouth Yellow, from a little downstream, Lower Orange, in the Richtersveld. Caught using the short line nymphing technique.
