What the freak is the deal with the racing tandems, especially the mixed tandems, that when we moved from our block to the start line after the Elites left that the wifes, about 30 of them runs to the start line to secure a frontline position when the yellow rope is still up for the block??? Its not my problem if you arrived late.

They really look ridiculous and like a bunch of kids running for sweets. The worst of it all is that they dropped out at Joe Slovo so what were they really running for actually??? I think it very childish and the next time I ride in a group like VA and will run to the front of the start before the rope is being dropped and ask a friend to bring my bike to me later....

However, the real tandem guys and girls moved together and fair to the starting block and I really appreciate it.

Ja, it happens at a lot of races, but as you say, they drop very quickly

Remember you are talking about "tandem tannies" here, the same type of person who swears at other cyclists as if it is normal. Expecting a "tandem tannie" who thinks they are superior to wait in line like everybody else is like asking an EFF supporter to wait politely for their red beret!

Best to pass them up the first hill and make a cheeky chirp, but be careful, she might shout back "my man sal jou moer"!

As GravelDonkey would say - idiots!

WTF !!!! you have got to be kidding - don't they realize the race is never one in the fist 500m !!!

Must have been funny to watch all the same :whistling:

This thread is a joke.... you b!tching about this makes u worse than a "tandem tannie"..... you might as well complain about the weather while you are at it too.

I rode racing tandem - mixed..... and guess what we - rode around the guys that dropped on Joe Slovo....; whether they pushed in or not, makes no difference..... hardly something to moan about.

Let your legs do the talking.

It is hilarious to see, trust me! They look like a bunch of amateur hooligans, its actually an embarrassment to everyone who starts in a group like that and very unprofessional, its something meant for the social tandems group. I wonder where this thing started, we were so startled and couldn't believe our eyes!!!! They really needed every bit of advantage they could get because they are hell slow against the climbs...

Hahahaha shame, that is stupid.

But seriously, the guys that won the tandem category, JOH! placed 59 overall, those guys are machines! I have trained with them before, insane strong.

I think they started at the back of the bunch and didn't run to the line, then they only came "alive" and into play at the top of Witkoppen and rode off alone from there and in the head wind of the N14 to the finish line basically, all on their own. Truly a strong team! The rest of us tried to catch them without any luck and ended 4 or 5 minutes behind them.

Due to that, the first 25 or so tandems ended up with a faster time than last years overall tandem winners! A hard ride and I can feel my legs today!!!
