OH BOY!!!...@ dave303e...Jip that wobble got me in a wobble...I HOPE Craig was NOT irritating Cobus with his talking ...hehehe...I did send him a message before they left to leave Cobus alone as he will be VERY busy DEEP in his maps...hehe..

BUT now I see Cobus is almost taking a mini tiger line to that TA 4...I really hpe they can get there by , say 05h00 and have at least a 2 hour nap before the window to the river opens at 07h15...coz tomorrow is the last day to go on the river then it closes and all other teams will be short coursed...

I estimate 6-7km to transition so hopefully be there by 2am, Am sure they will sleep there till the dark zone is lifted tomorrow. Leaders getting a full night sleep on the river bank this evening about 1km out of a town where they could have probably found some warm food and a warm place to sleep. This is adventure racing

I highly doubt it at this stage, If you look at a graph of the average temps in that area they still in double figures there, the streetview photo from the farm station where their next transition was taken in August when average temps are like 4deg. Also in the recap video on vimeo the peaks in the distance have no snow at all.

Well thats a good thing then...I think trudging through snow must be hectic...OK..I just did a Google earth path measurement and it says 6.32k to the TA 4 and according to the elevation it shows downhill from their present point...so hope they make good time and get in a good few hours sleep

Well I see Jabberwocks have just hit CP19 at 03h00..they have a downhill run to TA4 of about 3kays ..I think after 80 odd kays through the NZ countryside they gonna feel it...that 05h00 time is spot on...

So after wrecking yet another pair of cycling cleats with a hike a bike in Eswatini I am looking for input here: MTB shoes that are not useless for mtb and won't fall apart hike-a-biking.

2 pairs down this year alone

what models did you wreck? sole come apart or the uppers?

I've been happy with my shimano MT44. i do need to sort out the lace things now, but that's just a bit of rope

First ascent and Capestorms... Before that I wrecked a pair of catlikes

okee dokee,

Then go for something more touring oriented.

you get a few models that have vibram soles and apart from just being more comfortable they last.

quite hard to find locally, and if you go CRC then you hoes for big import duty. that's how i ended up with shimano because they are the one brand with a big agent here.

found these, and they're on a 1% discount too

Is that speed in km/h?

I always wondered how fast paddling was. For some reason I imagined it was faster

That depends on what boat you're in and the paddle... Sometimes we paddle up river and have to carry the boats plus kit for large stretches over rocks, weirs and mountains.

It says paddle, but often it is just a hike with accessories.

Oh of course, yeah sorry that was dumb, so that average includes all paddling and carrying and and and, ok got it.
