grego12 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I've finally decided to change the avid brakes on my Spec epic 29er with XT. Chainreaction has a great special at the moment. There are however a few options to order which I need advice on:-front hose length 950mm or 1000mm?-rear hose length 1500mm or 1700mm?-the levers are either A spec or B spec - which do I need. The bike has SRAM X9 shifters-will the avid rotors work or do I need XT rotors? Thanks
Redlight Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Good choice1000mm and 1700mmA specYes it will but no where close to as good as the xt rotors will work. You will no go from no stopping power to rip your eyeballs out stopping power

Dirtbreath Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Measure your Avid hoses and potentially save yourself a trim and bleed. Spoke101 and Baaisikilist 2
Guest Smimby Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 You will no go from no stopping power to rip your eyeballs out stopping power It is called modulation. SHIMANO brakes are like a light switch. ON/OFF Avid has modulation at least, but people don't bleed them properly and then blame the brakes. arendoog, FLX1, Peach. and 7 others 10

Stumpmeister Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I did this some time ago and also fitted the ice tech rotors because the Avid rotors burned blue with the Xt brakes. Enjoy the new stopping power, go for the Shimano rotors.
Mtblife Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I had avid brakes, had them bleed till I was bleeding ,,, Total rubbish replaced with complete sets of XTR. It's like a new bike, roller coaster and stop when u want to. Modulation a big word for slow reaction brakes. When flying down Silvermine , if your speed is high there is more modulation with good brakes. Avid lose grip after a few pulls.
porqui Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Hi! my name is Peter and I have Avid brakes. Stumpmeister, shaper and Lexx 3
udxcob Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Peter your brakes suck (just like mine) go buy yourself some shimanos

Redlight Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I hope you bought the shimano brakes. Please don't give those avids to anyone. That will be evil. Just place in the rubbish bin.

Paul Ruinaard Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Get the ice tech rotors as well. Work brilliantly. I also went to 180mm rotors, and that added to the modulation even more.
