Very clever.

Is the "push" from the gass strut strong enough to lift the seat post when you undo the seatpost clamp without the need for you to pull the saddle up? Understand that you still need to align the saddle before closing the seatpost clamp.

Again, very clever.

Nice! !!

Any chance of a video of it in action??

Sure thing, will get le go pro running for some on the fly seatpost adjustment footage

That gas strut is almost too strong, so unless the seat post/tube is greased properly like it should be a.k.a not dry, it won't drop - it drops butter smoothly right now though. It also pushes my weight up with much ease and makes that signature tsssh sound like when you open the hatch on a bakkie etc. and pushes it in a straight line too, so no saddle re-alignment necessary unless you bump it hard.

Thanks guys, loving the ghetto-ness.

Very cool dropper! Just fir info MacNaughtans sell gas struts of varying length and diameters that they can custom charge them your desired pressure (5 - 2200N if IIRC). So if that off the shelf unit is too strong, maybe try a softer one.

Very clever though!

When the valve stem broke on my bike here at work in the Congo, I used Pratley's putty to glue the valve into the stem. This left the stem too short and the airway half blocked so my pump and C02 fittings would not work to re-inflate the tubeless tyre .

I solved the problem using the CO2 fire extinguisher conveniently located outside my room to re-inflate.

But how does the seat connect to that thin shaft?

I had to make a plan to deal with my slipping chain while I wait for my half link to arrive so I did a quick hack job with some bits from the hardware store. It kind of suits my SIngle Speed Semi-Rigid beater. I might keep it.

Do you actually release the seatpost while pedaling, or do you get off the bike when doing it?

I adjust on the fly as they say so while riding, just slow down on the pedalling for a short moment, release the clamp, drop, clamp on and pedal again. Same for the way up, but that sounds and feels the best.

There was a youtube video of a guy doing that and after seeing it, I tried it out immediately and then all of this happens.

Will post a video next week when I get the gopro again.

For the connection to the seatpost, I made a plastic/nylon fitting and tapped thread onto it the same as the bottom one.

If anyone is keen I can post a short how-to on this ghetto mod. It's super fun. Thought the ghetto would get flamed thoroughly though hence I haven't done one as of yet.

Soon we will all have ghetto mods on our bikes!

I had a roll-on-the-rocks prang a while ago, put a few scratches on my bikes paintwork. Went and bought a R27.95 bottle of black nail polish and used a pin to carefully fill scratches. I've also got cable ties holding my cycle computer in place.
