janfromnam Posted January 7, 2014 Share I CrossFit 5 days a week in the morning, just do the WOD's, scale the exercises if I must and not try to compete with the youngsters.
WrightJnr Posted January 8, 2014 Share Yip, I'm also doing Crossfit. It's made a huge difference to my cycling and off-road bike racing. It's always a different workout, never boring and I've never worked so hard in 1 hour before. Quality workout. I used to suffer badly with lower back pain from cycling, I have no issues since starting CF.

peds Posted January 8, 2014 Share My gym also offers Cross Training it is a very good workout works on strength and fitness similar to Cross Fit, I find that the Crossfit gyms are just too expensive if you have to pay for gym and crossfit every month can work out expensive. Would be nice if the gyms could have a crossfit section or the medical aids come to some sort of agreement with the crossfit gyms! fabes
WrightJnr Posted January 8, 2014 Share Because crossfit has a lot of Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics in it, it is very important to go to an official affiliated box (CF for Gym). There are many around. Best thing to do is log onto www.crossfit.com and search for affiliates in your area. That means they have proper certified coaches etc. I go to CrossFit Ivory or CrossFit BST. Both on the Westrand.
peds Posted January 8, 2014 Share I agree CrossFit must be done with proper certified coaches or you can get seriously hurt. fabes

Too many unqualified people opening a "Crossfit" gym which will result in huge physio bills later on. Crossfit is great but you need the correct coach that is willing to teach the correct lifting movements from the start to avoid injuries later on JGR

Crossfit is great but you need the correct coach that is willing to teach the correct lifting movements from the start to avoid injuries later on I think this might change though ... meaning there is no reason why a Reebok Recognised box cant be part of the official Discovery gym network. Our box has a Discovery iPad to log our workouts ... I see that as a start ... But, it is true that if a box is not affiliated ... and/or the coaches are not very strict on technique/posture/etc - this is a place you should stay as far away as possible. On the other hand, the stuff that sometimes happens at a Virgin/PlanetFitness are just as bad, or even worse from what I've seen and experienced (self induced or via trainers). I've been doing XF for about 3 months - its been great. Really nice bunch of people you work out with, good healthy competition at your own pace ... and its been great for my cycling. And all the other good things thats been mentioned in the other posts. Now I just need to get more on the bike WrightJnr
