Aluman Posted January 17, 2014 Share Just read an article on Moneyweb that indicates that Cycling is taking over from Golf as far as spending go. Just an idea: Golf courses can diversify by building mtb tracks at least around the perimeter and with this make available more tracks in urban areas available and provide a safe environment for cyclists. No - golf is the poor cousin of mtbing! Actually agree that golf clubs must start looking at becoming multi-event venues again. scotty Posted January 17, 2014 Share I don't know what the future plans are for BCC, at the moment while they building you can ride most time and every Thursday evening there is a night ride. Only other golf club i heard with something similar is Heidelberg GC but don't know much more than that.
MTBc Posted January 17, 2014 Share yep, one of the reasons being that if you ride more you get better / quicker / fitter, but it's not the same linear relationship in golf. You can play for years and still suck. breaker

l4y3rcake Posted January 17, 2014 Share I for one would not like an oke shouting "TRACK" while I'm making a put so they would have to ban STRAVA use on the golf course.

cfcjim Posted January 17, 2014 Share Golf is not a sport. It is a game like darts or snooker. The only thing golf courses are good for is riding on. LazyTrailRider, IMan777 and Pants Boy
l4y3rcake Posted January 17, 2014 Share I would also not like it if someone shouts "FORE" whilst I'm coming down the single track! Let me know which bike you on and if my ball is heading your way I'll keep my mouth shut. OK on a seriaas note now. Golfers as much as cyclist are passionate about their sport; fanatic bunch of people they are. I can guarantee that the first time a cyclist pisses off a real golfer(not the18 handicap once a month guy) the club will have to choose between the 2 sports. At R300 green fees per game and R10k a year membership fees, guess who wins? I used to be one of those "real golfers" I know how they would react. scotty Posted January 17, 2014 Share If one were to shout four instead of fore would that confuse the other golfers breaker

madbradd Posted January 17, 2014 Share Actually... shouting "fore" would confuse the golfers, as you're supposed to shout "four'" as a warning to the fourball that's about to be taken out. Aside from that... as a golfing cyclist myself I'd hate to have to push my cart through the tracks ridden into the course by cyclists, therefore the tracks would have to limit the track to the perimeter of the course. Most courses walking distance is about 7.5km including between holes so you probably won't get more than about 4 or 5km per lap - great for night riding but hardly a long lap by anyone's stretch of the imagination. However I think a prime opportunity exists at huddle park where there are still 2 unused courses. Wonder if anyone has approached them.....
