Modders

To the guys running the Modderfontein Trails, time to get off the couch and sort out the trails!

The second half of the red and yellow routes are un-rideable, overgrown and a complete mess.

Clearly my entry fee as well as the multitude of other users is not being put to proper use.

Come on, shape up or Avianto, Thaba, NF and Kings will be getting my money, not you.

Agreed!

Send them an email http://www.centralparktrails.co.za/ - it'll do more good than a rant on an internet forum.

There has been talk of a new partnership with Ride Free but I have yet to see any meaningful work done at the trails. Has been some token cutting here and there but real trail building/clearing and the extra track they have been promising has not appeared yet.

It is still relatively early in Jan so I'm gonna give them some leeway - but not ride there until I hear some concrete evidence of improvement. Right now they don't deserve the R40 entry fee.

I rode there yesterday. Got lost around the area where the cross country track used to be. Seriously overgrown and pushed for some time trying to find my way out.

It also happened 2 weeks ago in the same area.

i wonder whats the story NOW???

TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR the routes were really badly rutted and clearly in need of some TLC lets hope it doesnt go the way of the rider/runners who pay who get left up to cleaning it up

Modder's used to be great. The best old climbs on the red route is now non existent due to wrong red signs and no maintenance. This is very disappointing! Red flows into green and then confusion sets in cutting a potential proper ride short. Even if you knew the old trails you cant spot them in the vegetation.

Its getting to the point where you cant justify the R40 Fee!!!!

and #The Citec Guy, I WILL send them a note (as ive done before) suggest you do it as well!?

From what I've heard is that the modderfontein land has been sold? Pr is being sold?

Could be why the are not doing anything about the track?

No, the land surrounding the nature reserve was sold.

I've stopped going there because of the lack of maintenance and litter. Should not need to tell then they should know to keep modders in good shape. If they pull their socks I may return one day.

Yup. Did it when I read your post.

Good idea I reckon - too many of us moan about stuff but never actually at the people that can do something about it. A few emails from us hubbers should grease the wheel of change at Central Park Trails.

C'mon guys - let them know how you feel :-)

Ride there most Wednesday and Saturdays, have an office in High street and live 10 km's away from the entrance gate. I consider it a privilege to be able to ride there. Wednesday evening I saw Blesbok, black backed Jackal as well as numerous birds including a rare African Grass Owl and watched a Barn Owl catch and eat a mouse. Great place.

Yes the grass could do with a trim and there are a few signs down, I'm sure they will sort them out soon enough, but mud? Seriously? What should the organisers do about that? stop the rain! There's mud because it rains, the grass is long because it rains and there is great wildlife because of the healthy vegetation, due to the rain. And if I do see the odd piece of plastic or paper I pick it up, very little litter from cyclists, bit that blows in from the AECI truck park at about the 1/2 way mark on the yellow route. BTW if you lost a First Ascent glove I picked it up, PM me if you want it back.

Agreed that the mud can't be stopped because of rain, however for the R40 we pay they trail maintenance is appaulling!!!

The wildlife isn't going to die cos the maintain a 1m wide channel through the veld. the could contract wooden bridges/ crossings where the mud is really bad, like near the river.

I haven't ridden there in 2 months because of the poor maintenance.

I personally think they are theirs for what we pay vs what they spend.
