I got 4 Lohmans last weekend. One of them just started to lay (still ~small) eggs.

Still figuring out with the coop layout (the old aviary). Anyone know where I can buy 1 or 2 straw bales in the Durbanville area?.

We have 4laying lohmans. Getting 4 eggs a day for the past 3 weeks. And then 3 chicks still about a month away.

They give amazing compost material[emoji4]

There is a petfood place on durban rd. I think its call old oak foods or something. R29 per bale.

I am so keen to get started. But the free range chickens we have is a worry. I am looking for a cheap tunnel setup.

Yup, I was shocked what they can do in a short period of time when allowed to roam free.

My coop is certainly big enough (shocking what small area can still be legally classified as 'free range' chicken), but have a concrete floor. Ideally I would  give them time on the garden as well, but controlled. Looking at one of the mobile/drag-able coops to give them time outside. Must be light though - my project for the weekend.

This is way to big for me and commercial, but I like what Farmer Angus do:

Lekker guys. I'm busy with chillies and beans. Not really sure what else to plant. How do you keep birds away from tomatoes?

Employ Ruan and zoltan.

Old CD's and other shiny stuff hanged from a nearby tree or the trellis. relocate them often otherwise the birds just get used to them

I'm trying the Square Foot Garden thing, check out: http://sfgsa.co.za/

Carrots and onions in the near most row.

Lettuce and Swiss Chard in the second

Peppers in the third

and baby tomatoes in the back.

I'm struggling with an Ant and snail problem at the moment.

This is what it looked like at the start

Does the dog eat vegies too?

water from your shower/washing machine/bath

O ok. So the soap/detergents are ok? I'm busy with a project to use rain water for my toilets(obviously will still be able to use normal water when the catch tank is empty) but if gray water is ok then that sounds like another project to look into.

My gray water comes from shower, bath and washing machine. The dishwasher and the dish water goes into the septic tank

Used it on my lawn during the dry summer. And it worked a charm. Also kept the septic from having to be pumped all the time.

My tank is small. About 500l and works with a float pump. I like not to keep water in the tank for to long, to prevent stuff growing because its standing to long.
