I was wondering if there was any news about the cyclist that was laying covered next to the road today in the 99er. I narrowly missed the impact and some friends coming through later commented on a cyclist still receiving attention.

The race this year for me was plenty eventfull and even the gravel posed a danger as the loose sand was upon you without warning.

In all of this I most definatily want to thank the marshals and all volunteers who makes the WC the greatest province to cycle in!

Yeah man, I also passed many accidents. I was almost involved in on at Fisantekraal, someone messed up their line and took out about 10 cyclists behind. I also saw the cyclist covered in a blanket on a drip with his head bandaged. Not a nice sight. There was another on who went down and a farmer protected the area with his bakkie, big ups!!

Not nice to see so many accidents, but well done to organizers and a great race and thanks to the marshals

I'll be very surprised if that's true, when I left him with the ambulance crew he was concious and knew his name and other small details.

Okay thats great news, he looked alive but pretty banged up we I went passed. I always feel so sick when someone dies at at a sporting event, they get up in the morning to do something they love and never make it home to their families in the afternoon. Like the two swimmers from the 70.3 last year.

Phew!

Relieved. Sounds like he survived is the most likely scenario.

I was riding in group b and at around 42km on the downhill it was a pile up at 55km per hour of at least 25cyclist...ouch

I was right behind the first two that went down and I punctured, but somehow a lady and I got around with our bikes touching. Gees the first two hit the ground so hard. It was sickening

Thanks for all the updates. I was also in group be and helping a friend with a tube made me see the crash from a distance.

I narrowly missed a second one just after the left turn to plilidelphia. I think the cyclist uncleated as het got out of his saddle and took another with him.

I agree with NixM, I would hate for any of my fam to get a call like that. I leave them sound asleep as I rock up to these events.

2 of my mates went down in B group. 1 concussion he was the worst off, he woke up not knowing anything apart from he's name. Other is okay. Helmut crushed and very very sore ankle and back....

The bike is the guy with concussion, the helmet is a very close friend/brother, they are both home and okay, were both in hospital for checkups
