Scuzzy, If you are objective about the clip you will have to be honest and realise that it is a case of the "pot calling the kettle black".

The classic RSA road attitude of you are wrong and I am right. The guys cycling in the back were in line except when overtaking. The cyclists in the front were riding in a bunch hogging the road and not stopping at a stop sign. The driver that took the video clip was operating some or other filming device (propably a cellphone).

So now you are talking about the attitude of the hub. Common respect is what SA roads need and only expecting one group of people to keep their side clean and the other not is not going to work.

True, but the one group of people ride a bike and the other a 1 ton+ piece of metal.

The sad reality is, if I do not stop at a stop sign/ride 4 abreast and get hit by a car also not stopping/ignoring a solid white line I will probably come of worst. So I rather focus on obeying the rules and respect the cars around me. You are fighting a loosing battle by thinking you have the same rights on the road as other vehicles when you are on your bike. Unfortunately.

Bateleur1, there is not a change that the movie clip was taking with a cellphone in hand, way to stable for that, but anyway.

Point is this. You can see how the drivers in both cars get frustrated with the situation, The BMW wanted to overtake, and then the single cyclist passed the other one without signalling, or looking, talking about how much longer it would take to wait for the cars to pass, before you pass the cyclist ahead of you.

The stop street, what ever happened there, it doesn't look like that caused frustrations for anybody.

But once they hit that little hill, not even looking behind then, or trying to get out of the way of the car, I think that is wrong.

Sure, the car passed on a solid line and all, but my opinion is that it was because the guys was cycling next to each other.

It doesn't matter what we feel right and wrong is here, point is, we should do what we can so no fingers can get pointed to us. Saying the we have right of way and things like that just make things worse. We do not have the respect of drivers and we are not doing ourselves any favor, as this video shows.

.

If I look at that vid I see that the road isn't very well maintained. I see potholes, sand, ditch at the side of the road and driveway curbs extending into the road. That bunch is much safer riding abreast which give them some space to swerve for said hazards without having to worry about cars behind them.

Correction, you stop at the stop sign, you ride single file, you stop at red robots, you do everything right ... you still get taken out by that 1 ton weapon.

Somehow I get the impression some fans here think I am condoning disobeying traffic rules. I say it again. Everybody should obey, not just one group.

Yes I am totally with you. But I can only control my actions, whether on my bike or in my car. That is why I maar take a back seat and be the one that is obeying the rules.

And when alone on a stretch of road, I take my frustrations out on my running shoes and bike.

While of course always obeying the rules and diving out of the way of any cyclists approaching when running. :)

I still see many people justifying their actions because other's are doing something wrong as well. Really ? You need to stop playing the victim. It's not a Us vs Them ... It's a You. I see many stupid people doing a myriad of stupid things during my daily commute to work, and sometimes I have been that stupid person. But I've admitted it to myself, and attempt to keep myself in check. I do what I can do to keep myself safe on the road.

Way too grown-up a post for the Hub. I'm going to get Admin to ban you!

Pretty evident the cyclists were absolute idiots.

Pretty evident that anybody defending them needs to get their heads checked.

That said, respect is mutual and earned. Cyclists need to firstly earn the respect of the drivers, and NOT the other way around. Next time, they will just get killed because of a lack of initiative to look out from under their noses.

Why? Should people with out guns have to earn the respect of people with guns, lest they get shot? This may be the case, but this is not the type of society I want to live in.

Imagine you are walking on the side walk, you get in someones way, and so they start swinging a knife at you. This is what these motorist are doing.

The motorists are putting the cyclist lives at risk. The fact that the cyclists are being inconsiderate, it dose not make it ok.

Maybe if motorists respected cyclist they will receive more respect from cyclist.

But not in SA. Taxi's respect no one....very few motorists respect EACH other. And then they DEMAND to be respected by cyclist and runners etc.

Cyclist have a RIGHT to the road!!!!! Adn this is what MOTORIST forget.....

I wonder if the person filming the cyclist has done the same with other motorists, taxis, busses etc.
