I have now been disappointed a third time with my Conti's.

My First GP 4,000's (clinchers) rear tyre lasted 300km before the wall casing gave in. Sent them back but they said it was my fault. (not a factory fault). I did not hit anything.

Then I got a set of their top of the range racing clinchers from which the front wheel lasted 500km before the rubber on the side started cracking so that you could see the inner tube through the outside wall. (like when a tyre was lying around for 5 years and now you fit it and pump it really hard...). The other tyre is 100%...

Now recently I bought 2 x GP4,000 tubbies for my racing wheels. The first time I rode them I felt a slight wobble. They now have 400km on them and the front wheel has a slight deformation once again (like it has a small bobble in it). A bike expert says I either hit a pavement or its a defective wheel. I didn't hit anything.

I can ride it as is as it will not harm my bike or me, it is just uncomfortable. Not even going to send it away as the feedback is always the same it seems.

Time to move on. Got 2 x Tufo's in my mancave and will fit them just before Ironman. Done with Conti's. Maybe I am just unlucky but I expected more from their product / after sales

You must the unluckiest chap on the planet!

I've been a Conti fan for years and never had any of the issues you mention above.

Conti went through a bad patch a few years back where the sidewalls on their road tyres were a bit tender but since then I've been rolling german with no issues at all (road and mountain).

Hell - RaceKing/XKing is my all time 1 day race favourite combo.

Not cool man!

Snap!!!!

I have had this with my Conti Race Kings and have watched sealant fizz out the side. I took that tyore off before J2C last year and replaced it. Now the exact same thing and just before this happened again I bought another from EasyBike in September 2013 and addressed the issue with them.

Im sitting with a brand new Race King Protection which I dont really want to put on because of this... sealant pisses out the sidewalls.

My mountain King sidewalls on the front wheel has lasted a bit longer than the race kings.

No other tyre has ever done this.

I dont think I should keep addings stans because of a $h!t tyre carcass, I wonder if Conti has fixed this or will?

Ok, which is the tubeless version for the 29" wheels?

Ive never seen them so a link will help too

You get the normal version, then you get the Protection... whats the tubeless version?

26" you get the wire bead or normal version and then you get the UST

29" you get the normal and then you get the Protection

This I know because Ive used Conti for years and the only issue Ive ever had is with the 29" protection sidewalls, specifically on the race king as pictured above.

Both mine and my prettier halfs 26" bikes had the UST Race Kings on and the walls were perfect until the tyres got replaced.

Chukks...

Most of the tyres we use as tubeless are not actually tubeless.

A "real" tubeless tyre has an airtight layer on the inside to stop the air (and the sealant) leaking through the casing.

Protection means "more robust" not tubeless.

Actual tubless tyres are about 200g heavier than their non tubeless counterparts.

Im well aware of the differences between proper tubeless and not, Im talking about the sidewalls perishing to rubbish in a matter of a few rides specifically on the Race King Protection.

Mountain King is only starting to perish its sidewalls now and its 14 months old as opposed to the first few rides on a Race King.

What he said

you using protection prawn....not tubeless...the conti versions actually have it written in white on the tyre...protection = snakeskin in schwalbe...like D said, just tougher, but not tubeless....we coverted them at my spot

I am around 83kg. I mainly ride a TT bike and I ride smooth surfaces.

Here is a photo of the one tyre. Its a Conti GP TT. Like I said the other tyre is still 100%

The label says 8 bar pressure, not 18 bar!
