Did my first k2c in 4:26. Thought it would take me 5 hours. Samola was a bitch though. Thought the end was near it when I turned the bend she still had a kick. The last 7 km was pretty windy. Overall It was a great race and well organized.

That is a great time nonetheless. I remember on the Atta thread you mentioned that you ride 1x10. Did you ride with 1x10 and what size chainring did you use?

thanks BF, yes 1x10 36T

Man, tough race, managed to JUST make my sub 4:00.. Last person to make it actually and by 5 seconds I think it was - I am happy considering i am cycling less than 4hrs a weeks since my little boy was born 5 months ago - Great race, will be back next year - weather was perfect besides that headwind from simola to the end, I had to dig VERY deep to make the sub 4:00 into that wind, was the hardest part of the race for me due to the pace I had to push..

Was a guy in the bus with us yesterday. He told us he did his first race 2 weeks ago and it was 30km. That was his longest bike ride and hes been cycling a month. Wonder if he made it.

Tried my first K2C yesterday, my race/adventure was ended at around the 16km mark just after conquering the ou wa pad... unfortunately it was not due to a lack of preparation, well this could not really be tested, but rather due to a fellow rider being reckless, inconsiderate and to put it simple an idiot.

We were riding on the jeep track just after the 15km mark and this guy (Riding with a Merrell kit and a white Cannondale) must of felt as strong as an elite rider... He tried to pass through the middle of myself and another rider, hooking my handlebar and taking me down in the process. This reckless and inconsiderate act was the end of my race (see the result in the picture) and for him when he put his chain back on told me it was my own fault of riding slow in the right lane (I was passing people at round 28km/h) and continued...

Anyway I'll try again next year... Rant over...

Bud I saw you at the finish line when we were waiting for my mate. Sorry to hear about your miss fortune. I must agree some of there guys was smashing it down the downhills not saying passing or anything very dangerous and when it come to the climbs they struggle to ride in granny you gotta love that.

This was my first and I did a 3:54 B batch so very happy. Will be back next year but not racing it. a Bunch of us will be cycling from knysna to Uniondale on Friday, making a sub 5/6 bus with some of our slower mates on the Sunday.

had my worst k2c in 3 years, suffered badly from cramps, trying to figure out why. At the TransBaviaans last month, I also started cramping but after taking a cramp block it went away, yesterday I started taking them before the race already, it helped f-all, limped in at 6h50 after hoping to enjoy the ride but still do sub 5

hard lines man, that's not nice,

I was sitting behind a guy down that jeeptrack that probably got nervous with me on his tail, and misjudged a turn en went off road luckily mountain side,  he was slow enough to stop ( I think) I am 95kg and just by freeing I am faster than most guys, but there are allot of people burning their brakes when they don't need too as well, but this is MTB, going past in the middel is no on, unless the middle is as big as a highway and you let the cyclist know of your intention to pass through the middle,

Also my worst, I noticed at the start my tyre starting to deflate rapidly. As I went over the start line it went completely. Saw valve was buggered, got spare tube out (was running tubeless) used two bombs to inflate, only to find tube buggered as well. Started walking back to the start as my race was over ( started in B) only to find three guys who were watching call me over. Well I tell you if it hadn't been for them I was getting a lift home. They ran off for a foot pump and we inflated my last tube I had. Lost about 40 min and then chased like hell, felt good till about 65 kms and then felt dreadful. Started cramping and generally awful. Finished in extremely dismal 5.42. I really wish I could find the three guys who helped as they were brilliant

Just had one of those ugggh days on the bike, minor mechanicals at regular intervals just never allowed me to settle into a rhythm, then later on my fitness completely deserted me (probably a combination of trying to hard to catch up and over-estimating my fitness) so Sub-4 have to wait for another year.

Also after 3 years of dodging pile-ups in cycling events my luck finally ran out, on the steep downhill just after the waterpoint on Kom-se-pad 2 riders collided in the little group just ahead of me and next moment it was just dust, bikes and people flying! When you realise you are not going to dodge this one you just pick your landing spot..... Flew over another guy's bike and had a nice landing on my head (now I know those flimsy looking helmets really work, glad that big dent is in the helmet and not on my head!) My guardian angel must have been putting in overtime because I only had a few minor scratches to show for my spectacular head dive. I hope the one guy that was taken away by the ambulance is ok, at least I got to finish my race.
