SwissVan Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Future planning? http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/schurter-to-race-tours-de-suisse-and-romandie-with-orica-greenedge "Cross country mountain bike world champ gets green light from UCI to race road After winning three cross country world championships and three World Cup titles in only five years, Nino Schurter (Scott Odlo) is temporarily looking for a new challenge in 2014. The Swiss mountain bike star will race part-time on the road for Orica-GreenEdge and will compete in both the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse......................................................................"To do the Tour de Suisse once in my life has always been my dream," said Schurter. "My heart is in mountain biking and will remain there. But if I ever wanted to ride a big stage race on the road, the 2014 season offers the perfect slot for it."To defend my world championship title is still going to be my main goal for 2014, and furthermore I will 100% concentrate on mountain biking to hopefully add a missing Olympic [gold] medal to my collection. I believe that on my way there, I can gain a lot of knowledge and experience from racing on the road with Orica-GreenEdge this year."Scott-Odlo Team Manager Thomas Frischknecht said, "Nino has always been looking for new ways to develop his skills. He is searching for improvements all the time - the opposite of a copy-paste athlete. That's him and that's why he is so good at what he is doing. I respect him for these characteristics and therefore support him with this idea. I'm pretty sure this experience will only make him stronger." Wez-O 1
Gen Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) The big question is. Can he tailwhip a road bike like he does a mtb. I read this a couple of days ago, when he announced it on twitter.. it was followed by a we will miss you tweet from an other mtber then followed up by, I will only miss 1 mtb race.. I suspect that was then followed up by a... 'darn' from same other mtber and the rest Edited February 20, 2014 by Gen

Taps Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 It's because he really, really wants to ride a 29er but knows he can't be seen to switch. So he has to go road shaper and Cippo 2

Super_mil Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 The big question is. Can he tailwhip a road bike like he does a mtb. rock Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) The big question is. Can he tailwhip a road bike like he does a mtb. too late......never mind. Edited February 20, 2014 by rock
rock Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 a bit like Cadel Evans when he was with Volvo-Cannondale and guest road for Saeco (which was riding cannondales) - went to with the Tour of Austria iirc during a MTB season.......he then went on to do some OK things in road cycling the last few years.......
SwissVan Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 The question is can those 29'er wheels handle a little tail whipping flashing? Best he sticks to riding the bike and trying to keep up with the roadies during a Tour instead of trying to be flash
SwissVan Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Nah he wont make the move permanent. I think after Rio Olympics (2016) he might consider it.... He's pretty much done everything he can as a mtber except win a gold....and the Cape Epic
