Dirty scruffies that dump rubbish....

Heard on the news about 8/9 guys arrested for illegal dumping of building rubble in Alex - they were released and fined R1800 each.

Until it becomes less lucrative to chance your arm - these arses are going to keep dumping as it's not their back yard. Jennie Cryws Williams was making a call to people to stop bitching and moaning about the litter and to do something proactive and go out and clean it - but until attitudes change - it's a never ending battle.

I wanted to get involved in a Alex clean up but every time I drive behind a car that just chucks stuff out the window, I asked myself why I should bother. Sad man.

It does indeed seem futile and pointless, below is a pic of more rubbish I picked up yesterday, this time at the top of Mount Grace hill near the water reservoir. Once again there were documents with the owners details on. SMS'ed the owner this morning and he called me to say he was sorry and would go back up there and pick it up. Its not much rubbish but it wasnt there a couple of days ago so I dont see why it should be there a few days from now!

I guess we all need to try and do our bit as at the end of the day we all have to live here, its time the educational dept also took a more proactive role in educating youngsters about the harm littering can cause.

Contact 50/50 and tell them your story. They are like the Carte Blanche for environment issues. Maybe they make you Eco Warrior of the month :whistling:

Jokes aside. I also hate it when people dump their $h*t. Either out of their cars or in the bush. Makes me think when I was still working for a developer. One of the workers on the back also "dropped" something off the back of the bakkie. I stopped and questioned him about it and he also came with the story of job creation. Made him pick it up. The rest of the workers thought it was very funny and I made them also pick up someone else's rubish. Never happened again.

Got an update from HSPCA:  'Kindly be informed that we are preparing the matter to serve before the Committee of Prelimary Inquiry for consideration at their next meeting pending receipt of instructions from the chairperson'...

Anyway lets see if anything comes of this....

Kudos for the follow up. Fingers crossed.

Other day at modderfontein, I was making my way up the hill, saw some people that had stopped at the top simply throw things over the fence. I was too far away to say anything but FFS, it's a nature reserve. Same people that would be the first to bitch about the place being dirty.

This is everywhere even in formerly pristine nature conservation areas.

Riding around Tokai last week I ended up picking up two 2lt plastic coke bottles, a few Pick & Pay polystyrene take out containers and a bunch of food wrappings. It's horrible to see and I am pointing the finger of blame at all the guys up there tree felling and collecting wood.

That's very strange. I think that is definitely a "clean up" company collecting stuff for a fee, then they simply dump it.

My all time worst!

A few years ago I rode through one of those not immediately realising I had done so. A little later I smell $h1t and figure I must have ride over some, so stop check my tires, find the culprit, and spend the next few min scraping the remains off my front tyre with a stick with eyes watering whilst heaving violently...I don't do $h1t well!

Continue riding but can still smell the bloody stuff and strongly too. So stop again, scrape a bit more off the tyre (not really any left), check the bike over fully, check my shoes, everywhere, nothing. Ride on, smell $h1t, and after another stop and search for the sneaky turd, give up and finish my ride in less than pleasant conditions.

Only to discover when I get home and take my helmet off that a piece must have flicked up from my tyre and landed in one of the vents of my helmet...hence the smell never disappearing. I am still traumatized!!!
