Yes.

If they had a rule to prevent that, Imagine how hard it would be to enforce...

Well.....just for information...with the licensed guys there is such a rule.  And the race commissaire pulsl alongside the bunch and pulls you out.

Anything outside licensed bunches is fair game.

This was not the case in the Amashova last weekend..... they had 4 cars following the first 5 groups (not unseeded) and they did not allow a rider that was dropped to ride with the bunch coming from behind. Wonder what will the case be in the 94.7?

Less than a month left.

Don't remind me. I am no where near ready. I can see some serious time coming up in the hurt box on race day.

It never gets easier, you just go faster.

yip I know that. Had a pretty bad year health wise so just dont have the base miles in the legs.

I'm good to go... was just sharing a bit of humour.

Amashova was done on a tandem, trying to help a friend break 3 hours. Turned into a very HARD training ride.

Ja from the Amashova thread I'm sure we know each others stories pretty well. And from that thread I could see that you're definitely a stronger rider than I am so I wouldn't ever presume to give you training advice :D .

My post was really meant as a general message to no-one in particular - my mistake was posting it as a reply to you. Sorry, wasn't aimed specifically at you - I'm certain you're good to go  .

I also don't get the extra 400 metres, but let me lay it out for you why people won't achieve their dream this year.

Starting the race and hitting Pooks Hill right at the beginning will split the groups already, those who went hard here will then have to content with Summit road which is a rolling road and can take the best out of your legs if you are already at the limit, my guess is that most will be on their limit at this point.

From there you get the R 55 and the old Heartbreak hill will be a mere sprint so early in to the race, then the drop to Kyalami and from here there will be many lonely souls as the riders will be riding an intense pace all the way to the onramp for the N1, this road from the Jukskei to the onramp is at a constant gradient.

By the time the riders hit the N1 they will be so pooped and will start looking at forming little groups all over the place.

From here on it will be a lonely ride for many, then the hills in Steyn City and if they include that final climb up to Riversands from the fly-over, let's just say that many people will be walking towards the finish.

The theory of flying fast downhill and getting up half the hill with momentum ,good luck with that.

I saw an interesting comparison between Kyle Buckingham' 2013/2014 Power numbers at IMWC in Kona that was down to the effect of this.

2013 he set a new amateur WR finishing 16th overall having basically run his own race at his own pace.

In 2014 his first year with the Pro's he faded and finished 25th overall because of trying to race with them. The Pro's would typically drive the pace up on the first few hills, redlining everyone and see who can hang on later. KB burnt to many matches on the bike, got dropped lost time and then did a 03:07 marathon whereas in 2013 it was a 02:56 marathon. Enough to drop him down the field.

The key is to conserve on those first hills. Try not to redline by controlling your power output/cadence over the hills. You'll feel much better cresting the hills anyway. It's the same in all races.

If you're in a group where you are holding on for dear life in the early parts, of course it's going to hurt later.

Route video: http://garyvdm.co.za/routes/94.7/

I was hoping to create a video with my own footage, which would have resulted in a much better quality video.  But it requires a bit more development, time is running out, and work and training are more important. So this street view version will have to do for now.

It unfortunately is missing the section through Steyn city. No street view here, and they would not let me video there anyway.
