Hi all again

I am still searching for a new bike and I've set myself a budget of R23000 rather than R25000 as seen in my last post. I saw a CAAD10 3 which looks amazing in black but the best price I've been offered so far is R26000 :( Another option that I've thought of is purchasing a mtb for about R12000 since I always see you guys having so much fun around meerendal and majik forest etc I thought it might help complement my road riding. So what do you guys think should I stretch my wallet and purchase a new road bike leaving me with 2 road bikes or go with the mountain bike and join the dark side ?

Thanks

Depends on your performance goals or lifestyle goals...

Wanna race MTB or road?

Have dream goals or favourite events to follow?

MTB is definitely the popular trend.

go with the MTB: the versatiliy can't be discounted as you will have a means to enjoy the best part of cycling: DIRT! A 29er on tar is pretty potent as well, so keep that bike size in mind.

Do you have a quality road bike at the moment? Will a R23 000 new road bike be that much better than what you have at the moment? Do you ride road for fun or do you compete seriously? Is your current bike limiting you?

For R23 000 you can buy a new Giant Trance or an Anthem that will give you years of fun on the mountain. Whatever you do, don't go cheap and nasty on either one.

(Personally, I ride both road and mountain)

It's great dilemma to struggle with.

Ah. Road biking. Half a sport. :P

Just kidding.... But I agree with the mtb option if you already have a road bike. The roads are getting more dangerous to ride on by the day... I just can't bring myself to spend money on a bike I'd be too scared to ride.

For 23k, the 2014 Anthem x 1 can be had. It's a fantastic machine at that price. If you want a more trailsey ride, go for the giant trance x.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I currently ride a Bianchi via Nirone 7 which I bought a few years back for R12000 approx and has a small dent in the top tube from a fall a year ago. I'd really like to get into road racing and join a club but at the moment I just ride for fun and fitness which is where the mountain bike idea came in.

Just another thought,Besides your personal preference road or trail, I would say location,I live just below the mountain trails so I don't have to load my bike and go and find a trail. I have friends that say its to much hassle to load and drive to the trails so they ride their road bikes .
