Anyone got the stats of Bainskloof between Wellington and Ceres. That one is on my to do list.

An absolute awesome ride!! Used to ride it often when I stayed in Paarl. The first bit is steep but it eventually turns into an awesome, supersmooth ride as you go higher.

Going down to Wellington there is some deep "grooves" in the tarr. Which does not make it a nice ride down ---especially with a road bike.

I want to come back via Tulbagh and Malmesbury. Still considering whether I should hit the pass before Ceres as well...

Brackenfell. So the route basicallly will run, Bottelary, R44 to Wellington, over Bainskloof, through Wolsely, Tulbagh, Riebeeck Kasteel (over Botties), through Malmesbury and back through Klipheuwel/Durbanville.

Eish that is a lot of miles. !!

Edit : in the rounds of 200kms You want to do the Trans Boland next? :D

To think, last year about this time I started riding. I couldnt do 10k's.... Now I've completed the argus (my goal when I started), and am prepping for the 1tonner, and hopefully the DC. Its been an incredible journey!

Edit: thread hijack off

Rode Gifburg pass near Van Ryns dorp. It has an average of 7% for 7km but has a mean kick of 22% for 200m. Van Ryns pass going to Nieuwoudtville is 8km at 9%.

that is our training hills. That last 100m of gifberg really hurt your legs. On the other side of gifberg there is ouberg pass. It is also a little killer. Edited by Breezer

This is the reason I want to ride the steep hills. A few weeks ago I rode a section with a 22% gradient, followed by a section which had a 9% gradient.

And I remember thinking - looking down on the Garmin - Great! it is only 9% now! :D

Steep hills... I mean really steep hils ... changes ones perspective of steep........ And that changes a lot .
