I am very happy that they are back in the lead. Both exceptional cyclists but I also find it shocking that the other teams are not remotely in their league. Are they so good or are the others just really mediocre?

How many local 'pro' teams were given a hiding from the ladies today???

The RECM ladies ride this year is genuinely the strongest ride I've ever followed for this event. This in the year when the ladies field has stepped up from all previous editions. They've clearly prepared in a big way for the challenge!

plenty...suppose all that talk of her hanging off hubby Erik's pockets for mixed wins in years gone by have properly faded now.

I think that they are just in a different league. I saw Ariane at Sabie and my first thought was that she is looking a lot leaner and stronger than last year. She has been putting in a lot of hard work.

These leading ladies are flippen strong. I have ridden with some of them at the National events and believe me they are not mediocre.

To get 20th on the longest stage the Epic has to offer shows you that these two ladies are just that flippen good.

I really hope they are that good and that the others are just really mediocre...

They are pro athletes that are expected to perform at the level they get sponsored and payed for.

They seem to understand this concept so they train and aim for the win .

Actually Robyn de Groot and Jennie Stenerhag have been riding exceptionally well. Before Robyn developed a stomach bug she was more and more in her element each day. Really impressive given that this is her first Epic and great for future events.

This won't be the Epic where people talk about Sauser's 5th win (touch wood). I think they will be talking about this team.

A 5th win is absolutely something people will talk about, it hasn't been done before and it will be something very difficult to achieve unless Plat wins in another year's time or if Cool harvey decides on riding the epic every year from now on with a partner able to hang on to him for dear life.

Annika.langvad: "We nailed it today! To get back the leaderjerseys we needed a gap of 27min, we took 29min! 128 very tough and hot km out there today! Taking the jerseys back feels so much better than taking them the first time! Now everything will be about keeping them till the end! #huntfororange @iamspecialized @specializedza"

I have said it before but will just say it again.

He is the most winning mountain biker since the sport started.

His wins are across all disciplines to do with Cross Country .

People need to check out his palmares ,it's not like he came in to prominence in the past 10 years.

now thats how you show the Commissaire the middle finger Arianne and Annika.

I don't think that was the point they were trying to prove. The made a mistake, admitted to it and took their punishment on the chin.

I think they showed all other pretenders the middle finger more than anything else...

Agreed , It was their own error so definitely not at "Commissaire" .

Certainly took it on chin and bounced back like true champions  , Very deserving leaders

I still think that it was a ridiculous penalty and that if they were not so dominant the penalty would have been far less severe. Anyhow, things are now as they should be with the best teams over the last 4 days in the jerseys.

1 hour is the standard penalty for going off the route. Happened to Kevin and max last year as well and I am sure that every one who participates is aware of the rule. The commissaire didn't suck the penalty out of thin air...

Well done ladies!! Exceptional.

BUT one would think with the Epic's so-called status and income they could afford better trail marking (and marshalling). Jeez imagine if the TdF leader got off course after breaking away (not impossible though).

But the same ladies seemed to manage to get lost at the end of the Prologue so maybe its an observation and sense of direction thing.

But there was a bit of conflict, by their account they rode 3 k's longer, by the reports account they took a shortcut .

Now if they did not take a shortcut, the penalty was just plain offsides and more a case of "we will show that we are serious" as opposed to giving the penalty based on the findings and the severity of the offence .

All in all a big fat middle finger followed by a zap and a wet panty in the commissaries face, and not just his face but most likely their opponents who might have very vehemently pushed for that penalty to be enforced .
