Don't get too attached to your bike's suspension or parts. They take quite a hammering when learning to jump and hop. Most bikes aren't really made for that.

Huh??? I don't think this thread is referring to hitting major gap jumps.

You can hop any bike dude. In fact it's easier on a hardtail. I've managed to teach a number of people on most types of bikes.

You can allways come down to KZN and show everyone your trials move off Wagon Wheel Wobbly ... 180 to nose pick off a 5foot drop ...

Even Thomas Slavik (World 4x champ) was impressed

Ahh, the pronk. Aka the fake bunnyhop.

It doesn't work at low speeds or clear much height or obstacles like pavements.

I think its practice. Just do it!!!! Works all the time with me....

You're missing out on a lot of fun if you're constantly worrying about your presh bike. Well, I would anyway. A few little hops and jumps shouldn't break or wear a bike unreasonably and is a skill that can potentially save you and your bike from a nasty crash.

Wheelies and bunny hops rely more on transferring your weight backwards than pulling up on the handlebars, once you get your head around that it all becomes much easier. And forget practicing with your saddle at your typical XC race height, put the saddle right down and then try, makes it all much easier.

umm YES i need to learn to jump up curbs and over ****. Its one of my serious challenges in mtb. also to jump down over obstacles without your back wheel popping up....

[/Quote] uhm cool, though for girls I highly recommend you get the upper body strong first, some bench presses & barbell rows, not a must but a bonus.

Like when your shopping with your husband, and people see your bruises and give him a weird look?

Worse yet, when the boss asks if everything is "ok" as they notice the bruises.
