I am tring to fit the crown from an FSA Headset to a Rockshox Revalation tapered fork however the crown is not able to go all the way down.

There is a gap of abbout 2cm between the botom of the steerer and the crown.

Advise please from those in the know?

I normally tap it down with a punch on the top lip away from the beveled off camber bearing contact surface. Tap it nice and slow......

  • step 1: boil water
  • step 2: make yourself a cup of tea and relax
  • step 3: pour remaining boiling water in a mug and drop the crown race in there for a few minutes
  • step 4: apply grease liberally to the steerer tube.
  • step 5: slide heated crown race onto steerer tube
  • step 6: tap in place with old bearing/punch/flat head screwdriver

If all that fails...

  • step 7: throw away your FSA headset and get a Hope one. Their crown races are split and can be pushed on by hand.

Good advice. Using temperatures is very useful. I usually put bearings in the freezer for a while before installing them.

I know nothing .. but i just cut the race witha junior hacksaw or dremel.. so its split like the spacers in headset.. that way i dont have to bash my fork getting it on and off...

I do a diagonal cut.. works fine no problems
