The Munga MTB Race

had another thought about this race/offering, and specifically the lucky draw concept. remember only one rider needs to finish to qualify for this from each team.

the route is ~1000km probably a bit more. so the time of 120hours is about 8km/h, if it's mostly provincial roads, then that's achievable for most cyclists who've taken it seriously. We do about that on adventure races which includes hike a bikes, getting lost, map reading etc.

top3 prizes, $750k, $100k, $50k - going attracts some serious big riders...at least 15-20 top top top teams none of whom have real jobs. They should mostly all surely finish in the time frame allowed

How many punters will enter for the hell of it - 20/30 teams? and they'll mostly take it seriously

so I reckon anything from 35-40 teams upwards will have a name in the hat for the $100k lucky draw....that's a 1 in 40 chance to win 10 times your money back. Not exactly good odds, more like a nice surprise if you get it.

Selle Italia don't make a saddle named after you unless you part of history.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it USD 10 000 to enter and first prize is USD 750 000 so the winner would get 75 times their money back?

I think everyone gets confused when converting the entry fee into ZARs and thinking it is R100k to enter and a million prize money when actually the prize for first place is just over EIGHT MILLION Mandellas. One million Ront for second place and Half a million Rand for third place.

Would this be the biggest pay cheque for a mtb race?

Would this be considered a stage race?

I'll correct you where you are wrong ;)

Shebeen is referring to the lucky draw of $100,000 which is the only prize the mere mortals will be in contention for ie the chance to win 10 times your entry fee back

If I was a betting man, my money would be safer with him than other Euro pro's.

Fully! ... I originally had Conrad Stoltz and Jens Voight pegged as a contending team. But The Caveman and Tinker, boom!

Biggest prize money for a cycling/endurance/adventure event overall.

Thanks. I guess reading the hub on a full stomach will lead to certain things being missed. I stand corrected. The reference was in fact referring to the lucky draw element of the competition.
