so ja, im new to the sport and there is just such alot of stuff to buy.

cant do it all in one go, will take a couple of months.

a bike rack is currently last on the list.

so at the moment i collapse my car's seats, take the front wheel off the bike and my 29er just (net-net) manages to fit into my car.

fyi i own a ford figo, so its no the biggest car.

i understand that some of you will feel the need to suggest i buy either a bigger car / or a smaller bike (aka 26er). thanks in advance for your contribution.

but i saw this video on youtube, and was wondering if anyone has tried this?

Jip, front wheel off, turn bike over, slide it rear wheel first with the saddle pointing downwards behind the seats. Turn Handlebar sideways and hook Safety belt over handlebar to keep bike inplace. Front wheel goes behind drivers seat. 26" Mtb.

This in a VW Polo.

ps. Got a Plastic tarpaulin I put over the seats if I had a muddy ride.

Also load mine in the car, but from the left side. Will check the video and try the right hand side way.

One of the reasons I haven't bought a 29er... it won't fit in my car :)

Thank you boris, my 29er hopefully fits in Golf5, never thought of this and hate using the rack especially on bumpy roads. It fits in if I fold the seats down though.

Mine often does - but it's an SUV, so fits pretty easily - I have an old sheet to protect the interior if the bike is wet and muddy.

Securiplex make a protective cover for your car seat for this trick.

DOnt you have one of those bike racks for prscheater (cant remember) that stick to the rear window???with suction cups, i saw one once on a jag. at FUN GAALENS

Yup, I do the fold seats down and slide the bikes in through the boot.

A Megane RS250 Sport isn't the best car for mountain biking...

But I manage, Seats down, sheet down, take front wheels off, slide GF's 650b in, put cushions over it (3 outside furniture ones), slide the 29er in, pack wheels into spaces with bags with helmets and stuff around.

Going to 3 Towers, both front and rear wheels come off, so that I manage to keep one of the seats up, so that our bags and cooler box fit too.

Problem with the Megane, the center exhaust doesn't allow for a towbar and there isn't a place for a roof rack.

I'm not overly a fan of the strap on racks.

Err... No.... :) Lambetr can't get over a pebble without grinding.... use the SUV for moving the bike around if needed - but I do have a 4 bike rack for it, don't always bother though, unless it's a long trip or multiple bikes.

I loaded my bike in my wifes car over the weekend for the 1st time...... :cursing: the roof had a lovely imprint from my chain and derailer. She never spotted it, til my daughter asked her wots on the roof.... HAHA Handy Andy and away!!!

But yes, my first time and it was easy in a Polo, just the wheels off!

I can fit 2 Large Momsen Al329, 29ers, into a Polo Vivo.

I then load a single bed, foam, mattress, and everything I need to camp for a weekend with the wife.

Maybe I just pack really well!!!!

This is what I do, I don't have a bike rack.

I get a medium Momsen 29er into the backseat of my C Class easily - though I remove the seatpost as well which makes it a bit easier.
