The scariest thing with Cyclesure is bike jacking.

So if I read correctly they will only pay out if it is violent !!!!!

So does this mean I have to get stabbed or shot before they will payout?

Where is your bike insured Rata?

Through a broker I know. I've found that a personal broker works to get your claim resolved for you whereas insurance companies have entire departments dedicated to finding a technicality. It's worth the very small fee.

Sorry to hear this Carpet. I had a look at the frame. It looks eina.

Frames can be replaced but trust and accredibility not so easily.

All risks, in insurance terms isn't 'all risks' as the rest of the human population understand it. Neat little grey area that assessors use as a loophole.

Colleague had a similar issue with his insurers some time back over camera gear stolen from his bakkie, despite the fact that it was concealed behind the seat under a false type of flooring. His claim was turned down on the basis that his equipment wasn't in a locked boot.

I also recently moved to iCycle

I am covered for all risks with roadside assistance.

Total risks R210,000.00

Monthly Premium R895.00

I do feel better knowing that they themselves ride so they should know what cyclists need and want.

They are also on the the hub.

I did ask the question of do my bikes have to be locked up in the garage and I was told no ways in a tone of voice that came across as that's stupid.

I must say this is quite sobering/wake up call.

I can understand insurance co's are trying to combat fraudulent claims but where do you draw the line, basically they are saying unless you live in a prison and keep yourself and your belongings on lock down constantly you have no cover whilst you are at home and say a thief jumps the wall and walks in through an open door?

A good day at home is all the doors open, moving in and out of the house/garden/garage, according to the way it's turning out here if there's any opportunistic theft that takes place whilst I'm around with no forced entry then I will have no cover whatsoever, even if I have all risks. And even if I encounter the burglar and he doesn't harm me but makes a getaway with my belongings I might as well have no cover, that's ludicrous!

I wonder if there are any insurance companies that offer cover with no signs of forced entry, that was what I thought all risks was covering, all risks - cover for any reasonable risk eventuality?

I think it's company and circumstance dependent. We got paid out after someone followed my wife into the house and nicked her bag, purse, phone etc. She had dropped them on the kitchen counter and gone to put her coat in the bedroom before locking the door.

general household is a different beast to cycle insurance. I don't like the smell of any of these cycle specific insurances

Which company was that, was it in the last yr or 2?

This forced entry thing seems to be all over, not just bike cover but it never occurred to me they wouldn't pay out in those circumstances if you were home at the time. Relaxing at home with a house door to the garden open is normal , as in Sa is it normal for some crazy burglar jumping the razor wire and robbing you and then running away.

I think it's reasonable to expect cover for these incidents whilst at home, if you can't feel safe with your stuff at home whilst you are there and within your homes perimeter walls then where else?
