26’ Tubeless Tyres

It seems that, if you still ride a 26ser, one start to find that cycle shops don’t stock decent 26’ tyres anymore.

The only tyres I can get in 26’ is Crossmarks and Larsen TT’s and I don’t like either of them.

I want to ask the hubbers if you have any decent gripping 26’ UST stock lying around that you want to sell, especially those people that are on 29ners now and don’t have the use of their old 26’ tyres anymore.

I am in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town (Brackenfell)

Craig, I actually bought the monorail from CWC this morning and will put that on but not sure how good they will grip in our wet winter weather.

I got Geax Suguard on the bike at the moment (front wheel at least - lost the back tyre due to a big piece of glass). Great tyre! But cant find it in 26'.

Fanie, I will check the revues on the tyres at easybike. Not very clued up on the pro and cons of the different tyres.

I just like to have an extra tyre in the cupboard if I need one quickly.

The Saquaro is a nice tyre, can get clogged up when wet though (then again most tyres do)

Chet to the guys at Evobikes, they should be able to get you some

Also check out Rapide.co.za , they only have 2.1s available at the moment, but they seem cheap.

Stoke Suspension in Obs have some decent rubber in the shop, also Williams Bike shop in Somerset West is worth a shot.

I have a CST BFT 2.4 which I'm holding on to for now (got it through ebay from the UK)

I used the Monorails on the front and Crossmarks on the back on my 26er, but only in JHB where our terrain is very different to CT. I was very happy with the grip of the Monorails, but thats only in JHB.

Buycycle have also got some 26" conti's which may be worth looking at, they are Pretoria based, but I have had very good serice from them before.

We have some GEAX GATO 26 x 2.1 TNT tyres in stock. The best tyre for this time of year as it does not clog up with mud.

Try Specialized Control Ground Control (fr) & Fast Track (rr) or if you need grippy GC fr and rr.

Can get them at Spez stores. If you use a hoodie, cap and dark glasses your mates won't recognise you going in and you'll be ok. Cheap. R420.

Thanks for all the comments. I am going to ride the Monorails this weekend end check out the grip. Naas, thanks for your link. I see you are very close to me. I will contact you if I need the tyre. I might just by it as a spare.

Look around for specialized. Quite a bit cheaper than many of the others mentioned (conti, maxxis) and I've never had a problem with the captain or ground control (the control 2blis versions are strong enough for me and I weigh almost 100kg) the grid ust's are quite a lot heavier. As mentioned above they are about R420
