My Ultegra 11 sp kit should be arriving in the next week, got the American Classic 11sp free hub locally.

Great prices, good times. Was due for an upgrade but am not going Di2 until I get a specific frame and that will be next year when the hype around the new TCR's dies down.

You can see Shimano is an a massive push with almost every overseas / online retailer selling new 105, Ultegra and Durace components and groups sets @ 44% - 52% off RRP. They are trying to get a massive market share asap and then phase out the 10sp options so you have to then you don't really have options.

Use you 10 speed wheels for 11 speed by converting the

free-bodies.

just take off 2mm on this part (if enough space left. ( Engineering shop) it worked for a friend of mine on his Zipp 186 hub and Powertap Elite hub

10 speed freewheel to 11 speed mod

engineering shop wanted to charge me R800 plus labour to cut 1mm off a freewheel so that an 11 speed cassette could fit

Curse you Zipp (lol) replacing the freewheel was almost R3000 ... shocked face ... One of my buddies did it for R350 , took a whole 10 seconds

I was discussing this with the bike shop owner that put my new steel ride together last month. You have convinced me to go this route - I will soon have back-up wheels capable of running both 10 and 11 speed.

edit:

I have 11-28 on my 11-speed wheelset and 11-23 & 12-25 on my two 10-speed wheelsets. Besides the extra gear on the 11spd, I honestly can't feel any difference between any of them.

Not much difference between 10 and 11spd road, slightly smoother shifting, real benefit is with closer gearing when racing on the 11-23 ratio

For those needing extra on the hills you can run 11-28 or even 11-32... so is like being on a 10spd with a bail out granny at the back with that extra gear

Edit: I have 11spd dura ace on the road bike and 10spd Ultegra on the TT bike

I;m only going 11sp 32on the back with compact up the front so I can perfect my best Froomie-esque, electrified spider peddling style on every slope in CT. ;)

how much space do you have between spokes and derailleur cage after mod? On some bikes the spokes are bearly clearing the cage

I admit i had the same concern.. rear deraileur clearance still great, didnt even need to adjust it , cassette lined up exactly like my cosmics
