Thick snow reported in Rhodes and way up on the mountain at Tenahead .

Was snowing in Barkley last night and predicted for Jamestown.

Finally! Thankfully we have some truly adverse conditions and we will see the mettle tested. Its been a couple of years wait, but now the riders will be having to deal with a totally different scenario.

Cant wait to see this unfold.

Keen to hear from Barkly Boy and Deanbean when they emerge from their electric blankets.

Tim, Mike and Janine making a good push out of Ntsikeni this morning. Will be very interesting to watch this unfold. They seem to have a weather window until Matat.

Mike R and John B went into a dark tracking zone yesterday afternoon whilst they were trying to find a route off a mountain. They still had one more big portage to do, so I don't think they will have made it to a support station. Will be fascinating to hear where they spent the night, especially in light of the bad weather :w00t:. This is what the FC is really all about.

The group leaving Vuvu for Rhodes this morning have delayed their start because of snow and high winds. . Lehana's pass is allways a challenge, but in extreme weather, obviously more so.

This is a photo that Kevin Davie (@freedomriderza) shared with me on Twitter of the 2007 RASA. It is a fellow competitor of his in a blizzard.

great pic of Kevin.

Andy Wonnacot is out on the trail somewhere in the snowy area today, it my well have been him who took the pic of Kevin, they were together on that day in 2007.

I always just smile when people refer to an epic day on wines2whales with a bit of rain - all relative I suppose.

That's Andy on the right, from FB yesterday.

Guess the short sleeves and sunnies are not the kit for where he finds himself today.

Pic is of snow at Rhodes this morn.

To put this in perspective: Rhodes is at 1800m and to get there you go via Naudesnek at 2588m, suffice to say Lehanas Pass portage is higher than that, not sure if the group will try and summit it today or ride around over Naudesnek, its the safer route as mist has reportedly come in too.

Whatever the case the snow at 2588m will be vastly more than the pic below at 1800m.

That isn't Kevin. The post states it's a fellow competitor.

Out of interest - where is the competitors number board?

Yip - this is exciting. I thought Lehanas was tough last year in that huge wind. This must be another dimension of mind games.

Pics of Tena Head and Tiffendel show much thicker snow than Rhodes, which would be more accurate for Lehanas I'd say?

No number boards either? Doesn't seem to be from this years race.
