I was wondering if anyone is riding with one of these units. Im looking to get one as it wont break the bank and seems to offer most of the main features im looking for in a GPS unit i.e speed, distance, ascent etc.

Not really intrested in power meters and HR monitors.

Does anyone have any complaints, opinions on the unit ?

Thanks.

Do not exclude a bryton unit. I have one and have received excellent service from them after cracking my screen. You can buy them online as well. www.bryton.co.za

I there, I had the 500 and sold it. I decided to then buy the 200 and what a mistake that was. The satellite pickup took minutes which annoyed me to no end. I returned the unit to Sportsmans Warwhouse and paid in the difference to purchase a 500 again. I haven't looked back since.

If you have the extra $$$ buy the 500 mate.

DC found it otherwise

Once satellite acquisition is complete, you’ll be ready to go. I found this to be the fastest acquiring Garmin unit I’ve ever tested it. Every time I turned it on – including the first time, it acquired within 3-5 seconds. Really astounding.

I got the 200 years ago when it got launched, Used it for many years and loved it. Then it died on me. Went to garmin and paid a few hundred bucks(awesome warranty deal they have) and got a brand new 500. love it even more. Just a hint, The 200 as it is an older design has the circuit board inside secured to the casing with little rubber "shocks" as bash protection. They wear out after years of mountain biking and just general rough roads. Then the circuit board touches the case and causes problems. Garmin told me that's why my 200 died. The 500 and 800 have a new better design that supposedly doesn't wear out as easily.

Im still trying to decide if having the HRM and cadence sensor of the more expensive models is worth it. They would be nice to have but iv got by so far knowing that my rate is usually fast when going up a hill and not so fast on a flat road or downhill.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, that link to the review was great, very detailed.

Ill be honest I don't use the cadence too often but when it comes to training programs HRM is a MUST especially if you don't have a power meter. Most of these free training programs make use of heart rate.

I use the Edge 200 and I would say if you're wanting to get into serious training rather save up for something that has a HR and power meter because that can really make a difference.

But I'm very happy with the 200 because it's a good speedometer... logs my routes, distance and accent. It's also very easy to use.

Some say you might as well use your phone and use an app like strava but I like the fact that it's separate.

I got mine for a give away price that's probably why I bought it but I'm very happy with it.
