I see on there Facebook page that they have acknowledged the faults and have vowed to alleviate most next year:

- more chicken runs

- more access and exit points to the spruit / sluits

- better lighting in the tunnel (thought it was awesome the way it was)

- more water points

etc etc.

Kudos to Hollard

Hi to All and J'sbella

It's sad to hear that your husband broke his hip ...We did at the time ask if he was ok and you commented that the medics were on the way. At that time there were no Marshals redirecting us, we chose not to cross as we felt it was unsafe and did not want to end up with an injury like your husband. With regards to the comment of "F him "and "we'll just ride over him", that is not how it happened and I feel it is rather presumptuous of you to assume any of these comments where directed at you and/or your husband. My friend actually commented that if I crossed the water and fell that he would just ride over me....! Friendly banter between mates...! but thanks for posting our pics ...! Awesome ....!

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate your assistance, however I was not referring to you regarding the f-you comment.  It happened some time later.

Awww I liked the dark tunnel!!!!

To the okes who didn't like the dark tunnel...

Mankele Avalanche has about a 3m diameter corrugated tunnel I think 80m long. You can get so disorientated and end up riding up the side and falling on your butt. True story!

Has anyone found more photos? I have seen the first batch on Hollard's Facebook page, but none of the rampcam...

I don't understand the lack of water issue, you were either in or right next to water the whole route! What was the problem?

;) hehe

Sunday: spruit rides

Monday: spruit runs

Hello HUBbers!

Just a final(ish) note from me, the organisers and Hollard...

We wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who rode and gave us feedback about the event (either in person or on this hallowed forum!).

We have acknowledged that water points and bottlenecks were definitely a problem, along with a few other things. These are very fixable problems and we’re going to pull out all the stops to make sure we improve year on year. We’re all just excited that you experienced what we wanted you to - the most unique MTB race in JHB - and an event that celebrated our “biggest man-made forest in the world”!

Oh, and the black market trade in Hollard Bells is quite amusing. Can you ring a medal? Ha! Perhaps we’ll run a poll next year for a “unique” finishers gift.

Thanks again, keep an eye on the social media channels for videos and pictures. Make sure you check out our coverage on SuperSport. SS8. 10 November 2014 at 20h30.

And a final note, due to the success of the event: Hollard, the race organisers, as well as some other interested parties, are soon going to be looking into more ways to improve and sustain the Spruit going forward. That's a win all round.

See you on the trails!

Really brave event to stage guys (Hollard) and for a first effort a superb one.  Thoroughly enjoyed the ride but luckily was up in the front group so avoided some of the congestion issues many others had.  The underlying clean up of some of the Jhb green areas is a great initiative and as a Hollard supplier I will definitely get us involved with this through you next year.   Well done!

There was other people more dangerous on bikes than a GoPro on my chest. I had both my bar clamp and chesty and the bar clamp had a stripped bolt.
