And therein is the problem. You feel duped and lied to. Others might not see it as a lie. Why not confront the issue head on and maybe take it up with BuyCycle - that would be my first port of call before the CPA.

I'm definitely not planning on taking it up with the CC. I hoped to open a discussion on marketing here, about principles in advertising and where the line is.

Unfortunately most took the opportunity of pointing out how l33t they are.

Anyone else feel a bit duped by Buycycle.co.za's e-mail pamphlet advertising XT brake sets for R1595.00, but when you click on the link it's clear that a "set" is for caliper and lever?

I think this is classic click-bait and misleading advertising. Consumer Commissioner would have a field day with this.

Have to agree with the latter. if you had no interest in the add, why promote it?

CRY ME A RIVER Nico

You had the time to come to this thread and post a reply that made absolutely no contribution to the debate and you accuse me of "not getting on with life".

Oh, the sweet, sweet tear of irony.

Promote it how? I sent it to friends because they may be interested. ONly then did I realise it was for something else.

And for the purposes of this thread it was a great example of ambiguous marketing.

So in actual fact you sent something without checking at it and now you feel like a knob, so let's throw a vloermoer?

I am laughing right now. Only so I don't cry.

To me a set is a lever and caliper, maybe a rotor or maybe not.

A PAIR on the other hand................

One clever man at least on The Hub, OP mail them and state the possible confusion ifka you feel so strongly about it

Yep, and as a result he probably won't buy anything from Buycycle again. Neither will I, now that I've considered just how d1ckish they are with their advertising "tactics" (I use quotation marks very purposely)...

My goodness, not only do some around here not know what "entrepreneur" means, but the slight nuances involved in the use of "irony" are also clearly misunderstood. Heaven help us.

What a champ. Let's assume they did it on purpose and it wasn't a mistake.

Let's do that yes, seeing as the listing was published both on their website and in a promotional mail citing it as a "special", with the "normal/previous" price as R1999. That is unless you're convinced that most people are used to usually paying R4k for a set (let's just clarify: both front and rear).
