I'd like to buy a "pair of sets of brakes" - lets get real here.

I am with Nico and Martin on this one.

This makes me not trust Buycycle.co.za, which means I am not likely to waste energy trying to figure out which enterpretation they use on the next flyer. This means I will just take my business elsewhere.

How many times have you clicked on ads and it says this item costs MUCH less than normal, then you get in there an it's not the same item?

Here's an example:

Bottom right, the Thule Hang-On advertised for R275.00

Nico, I see your point.

Say for example I bought a complete bike online and it was advertised as having an XT brake set and upon receiving said bike there was only a front brake on the bike I would be mad. So I am with you on this one that the advert was misleading. Better wording would have been "SINGLE brake set"

So you're saying that because "everyone does it", it's just fine and dandy? Nico has already addressed that angle when saying that we're all just too used to little lies. It's a dangerous slope.

Yep. Exactly.

Why single out one?

I saw that, and I didn't come throw a little hissy fit because I sent it to others without checking. Simple really.

Plus, I don't jump on a bunch of assumptions. I still say a marketing company could have made the mistake. Or someone else for that it matters. No use pointing fingers without facts.

I think you're misunderstanding. Nico specifically stated in one of the most recent replies that he was hoping to generate debate on marketing practices (something we should all be doing for the greater good of the industry). He did just that. You're the one who is claiming that people should "HTFU" and just deal with it. That's exactly what we *shouldn't* be doing.

Lots of judge, jury and executioner based on ignorant assumptions going on here.

Loads of onliners use "set" to describe one side. Typically Shimano is sold per side/set and Avid is sold per pair/set.

What's up with this need to feel abused and tricked? Damn.

If you look at this in its context, it is quite clear that this is a mistake, as right next to it is the seperate advert for a ride-on lock.

This is not the same at all as intentionally misleading people (with ambiguity) in an advert so that they visit the page

This ad was the FIRST time I EVER saw a set being a caliper and a lever. SO I think it was intentionally
